Audience 9.1 - Both shows are excellent, Zappa seemed to be in a very good mood, even extending the first night’s show length to accommodate late arrivals. Very cool. Soundboard 9.0 - A good, strong board tape, and a typically high quality Santana performance. This tape has been given a little facelift to reveal better dynamics, less hiss, and more depth in the bottom end, and high mids attenuated to make for a smooth, comfortable listening experience. Soundboard 9.3 - Three discs containing three shows performed during a stretch of the ’74 tour when Bill Bruford was brought in to complete the tour dates scheduled. Pro FM Broadcast 9.2 - Both sets are great, both in performance and sound quality. Really great musicianship! I also found myself really enjoying the songs, since I was only very familiar with their evergreen hit “Green Grass and High Tides”. Audience 8.4 - Another one of those audience recordings that, while being listenable and clear, does not have a great separation of instruments or vocal clarity. That being said, this recording is certainly worth having, because it’s not a pile of muddy crap – it’s very listenable. Features a packed set list too. Sale!Mostly Very Good to Excellent quality audience recordings. Interesting to listen in this context, with the idea being that the band worked out the arrangements in front of live audiences then went to record after the tour. Audience 9.1 - A really fine recording and a great show this is! Some minor limitations present during very heavy passages where the equipment fails to maintain the clarity we get used to during most of this show – but it’s not a deal-breaker at all because the recording remains powerful without distorting which is critical to the success of the tapers’ efforts here. You might lose a touch of vocals and some clarity (a little bit) but that will not detract from the pleasure you will get from this show. Audience 8.6 - This is an untouched, raw transfer straight from the reels, and as such it will sound like it could be MUCH better sonically with some professional sound re-mastering. Many people will no doubt want to hear it as it was recorded, and it is good, it’s really pretty good, but what I would prefer is a sonic facelift because I think this one really deserves it. It’s still a great show. Soundboard 9.3 - A very well traveled tape, seeing release as a video, as well as countless boot CD’s. The video was so-so, the audio has always been great. The show itself, not their best, and not their worst. Is it essential? It’s a great sounding ’76 board tape (the closing gig of the tour in Europe) so, my thought is that it should be somewhat necessary in the collection. Audience 9.7 - This recording is a sonic treat for your ears. The band performs a percussive style of music that is picked up by tapers equipment in a most dynamic way, with beautiful tonal quality, separation of instruments, and atmosphere. A winner! CD 1 Audience 8.8 - A very good, bright, well balanced recording. Most welcomed because for me, it’s this time period (actually 1970-73) of the band I like the most. CD 2 Audience 8.1 - A somewhat flat, and a little bit muffled recording. I can still hear everything, it lacks dynamic range, but I did not find it annoyingly so, just when compared to disc 1 this one sounds lifeless. Audience 9.5 - Superb fidelity, and as always a fine performance is delivered with that trademark menacing keyboard sound. At times it could be confused with electric guitar, which is exactly what I think Gianni Leone was going for since the start of the band in 1972. Audience 9.3 - Taken from master tape, this is super clean, vibrant, and detailed – as an Italian prog recording ought to be. These guys cover a wide range of sound and style all keeping within that certain ethos of grandiose, elegant Italian rock (can get frenetic at times, complex, gentle, ethnic, it's all that and more).
