Audience 8.8 - Most likely master tape source here, there’s no tape noise it is super clear. More emphasis on the upper mid and highs, but it’s not shrill or anything like that. This is a very good recording. Audience 8.8 - Clear and bright, and wide open enough to be able to get a realistic sense of what it was like at the venue. Maybe a little light on the bottom, but it’s hard to knock it as it’s so crisp and clear. Audience 8.8 - I can’t believe it was 32 years ago I attended, and recorded, this concert. It was my birthday present, although this actually went down one day before my b-day. It’s weird because Joe also sang “Birthday” the classic Beatles song (and it wasn’t for me although I imagined that it was ha ha!). This recording is only now being made available, and it sounds great and just how I remember it, with Joe being very animated and playing lots of numbers not normally played, and telling funny stories. It was a great night, I had a blast. Audience 8.8 - A very nice effort, sounds like the taper had pretty good gear. I hear a little bit of distortion in a very specific place in the middle band, not anything to ruin the experience but it is present and sounds like someone made an effort to clean it up in remastering. This is a worthwhile listen. Audience 9.1 - Excellent stuff, because you get a clean, well balanced capture with all the best elements of a live atmosphere. Two songs ran into some problems, like a muffled sound, where maybe the taper had to hide the mic, but it recovers. Very enjoyable! FM Broadcast 9.5 - Even though this is excellent broadcast quality, there are some moments where the sound kind of briefly drops in level perhaps due to inconsistencies with the venue P.A. system (that is to say, the sound man has to quickly lower or raise the master volume on occasion) but it doesn’t hurt this show a bit. Audience 8.8 - A very good recording that has an excellent high end clarity, low end is not as sharply defined but is definitely “big” and can be felt in your gut. A welcome addition to the Who collection for sure, especially since this was early in the tour when the band was still playing However Much I Booze. Audience 9.2 - A big and warm sound here, with excellent clarity and dynamics. The music at full blast gets just a bit of overload (not distortion, but just a sense of the wall of sound thing) all in all it is safe to say this one is highly recommended. Audience 8.4 - A loud and raucous tape (and show) that is a rollicking good time despite some minor hiss and lack of precise clarity. Audience 8.4 Sourced from three different tape recordings, all audience, to make a complete show. Not that bad, but you aren’t listening to this for the high fidelity anyway. This was a celebration, a monumental event, as were pretty much all Stones shows from 1972 on. So, yeah, rowdy crowd, noise, all that and more. But, you know, I listen to these and I still enjoy them a lot. It’s the event that I hear, I really don’t care if I don’t get every detailed note I mean it’s the sloppy Stones isn’t it? Audience 7.8 - The venue had a pool in front of the stage, so it stands to reason audience taping had to be midway back making for a not so great sound quality although listenable (not distorted, not horribly muddled) and historic (a unique venue that played host to top tier artists in their prime). The tapers sound like a couple of English gents speaking throughout the show in their proper English which makes for a fun commentary of the show…I mean, it’s half the fun of this recording! A neat little piece of rock history here. Not essential, but kinda neat.
