Audience 8.8  - This came from a collection of tapes that were recorded by a couple who had the permission of the venue, so you would expect them to be done with more precision and care….but the story goes that they never listened to the finished results and therefore were unaware of the flaws in all of their efforts, mainly being signal overload. Now, this is where modern technology comes in to the equation – because after all these years we are able to notch out the offending frequencies and now the tapes sound VERY good! Listen to the difference, go back and find a pre-mastered version of this show and then listen to this one. It’s amazing, really amazing what a well trained ear can do for some of these old artifacts. This show also happens to be an inspired performance too, so win/win. Studio quality 8.8 - A somewhat dated sound here, but clear and clean and straightforward. CCR were very song based as a band but man, they can also free-form jam with the best of them. Audience 8.8 - Aside from a rough beginning, this tape comes pretty darn close to the excellence of the Toronto ’75 show. It’s got good presence and clarity, with an ample amount of kick where it needs it.  I also find the performance very strong, Keith is firing on all eight and the band is really in sync with each other. Audience + FM Interview 8.9 - The big question then is “if I already have the show, do I need this”?  Quick answer is “yes, kind of”. If you collect live shows because you want to experience that moment in time, then you want this. Firstly, it’s direct from original masters, as is the rare FM interview, it’s in the proper running sequence, and it edges the well circulated “Santa Monica” title by a smidgeon in terms of quality. It also presents a day in the life of the band, then still two years shy of releasing their world famous masterpiece and becoming obscenely wealthy and…different, or I should say “indifferent”. Audience 8.8  - Some people list this as a soundboard, and if you heard the music right off you might think that too, but the audience applause gives it away as an audience tape, albeit a damn fine one. Plenty of atmosphere, and pretty solid dynamics (lush and deep bass, clear guitar, present vocals). Great version of Astronomy Domine (still performed live during the early part of 1970).
