CD 1 - Pro 8.8 (and the best disc of this set) CD 2 - Audience 6.4 (possibly the worst of this set, but if you turn it up louder it sounds better actually. Levels are low!) CD 3 - Audience 7.2 (a big step up from previous disc, levels a little low but not so much, kind of thin, gets crowded when the band is loud.) CD 4/5 - Audience 7.7 (good stereo separation, everything is clear, a decent recording!) Soundboard 8.6 - This sounds VERY 80’s, I mean, it sounds pretty dated…but good quality. I guess they were not too bad, kind of simplistic maybe in a Twisted Sister kind of way, but the guitarist pulls out some tasty solos. Dallas, TX. based hard rock/jazz fusion group heavily influenced by Jean Luc Ponty and Mahavishnu Orchestra. Enjoyed a brief but fruitful life span between the years 1975 and 1977, and having at least two significant line-up changes. Bassist Roy Vogt would later go on to find much success touring with legendary singer Englebert Humperdinck and teaching and recording many compositions in Nashville, most notably with guitarist extraordinaire Stan Lassiter.
-
Audience 7.8 - Both shows roughly the same with enough differences to say one has qualities the other doesn’t have and vice versa. So whereas in one show you might get more definition on guitar, the other will have more vocal presence and a slightly better rhythm section. Take your pick, two vintage Atomic Rooster gigs hardly a losing proposition.
-
Audience 9.3 - Taken from master tape, this is super clean, vibrant, and detailed – as an Italian prog recording ought to be. These guys cover a wide range of sound and style all keeping within that certain ethos of grandiose, elegant Italian rock (can get frenetic at times, complex, gentle, ethnic, it's all that and more). Audience 8.8 - This show finally comes to light after decades and it’s surprisingly good. It’s extremely insistent and powerful sounding with guitars really up front and vocals thankfully pretty nicely mixed in as well. In fact, even drums here sound nicely integrated into the live sound mix in this small sounding venue. I rather like this one and you will too. Armored Saint Sherwood's Indianapolis, IN. -
Soundboard 9.1 - Recorded and broadcast this is as expected a very good recording. The music is also… let’s face it these guys were top shelf and had a classy approach to heavy metal. -
Audience 8.6 - A little bit thin as far as this recording goes in that it could use a little more bottom end but that is not a deal breaker because it is not a “shrill” thin, just could use more lows. That being said, there’s a lot to chew on with this show. Great performance, good quality, so just be aware the singer requires some getting used to! Have fun.
-
Audience 8.3 - This recording captures a medium to large hall atmosphere from maybe middle rows and is quite good under those circumstances. It actually lends a cool vibe to the show, despite that naturally huge reverb going on. Oh, if you are unfamiliar with them, here’s the deal: GREAT hard and heavy jazz rock leaning towards rock with a very quirky singer. Once you get used to him, you are LOVING this band.
-
Audience 8.7 - A strong and intense recording with a percussive tilt to it, so you get a very present and crisp drums and percussion. Everything else is also pretty clear but I would have liked guitars more up front but they are fine. This period of the band is exciting and intense, so if you love your progressive jazz hard rock played with fire and intensity that sometimes is off the charts this band is for you.

Audience 8.7 - Small club feel, and a good tape to learn what this band was about, since there's a strange sort of "Spinal Tap" mysticism about them that has endured. The old recording here sounds kind of dated, and there's a few occasional sonic oddities that pop up now and again (like gentle phasing) but thankfully these are short-lived. The tape here is not muddy or screechy, it is focused primarily on guitars and vocals in the mix, so season to taste with your EQ if you want to roll in some added low end. It is a very good tape and fun to listen to. ANVIL Golden Mask Bar Arvida,Quebec, CAN. 1981 Disc 1 01. School Love 02. Steamin' 03. 666 04. Flyin' Cryin' 05. I Want You Both (With Me) 06. Brand New - This recording of Anvil's set from the 2nd Classic Metal Fest at Phantasy Nite Club, Cleveland, Ohio, USA on 12th July 2002 was professionally made for a prospective live album which never came to fruition. The whole set was then mixed & produced by Joe Kleon at G4orce Studios. Until today the idea of a live album remained shelved.
-
Soundboard 9.4 - What I find most appealing about this show is the mix, and how they do not bury the guitar which is what you might normally assume given the type of “top 40” music Annie wrote at the time. You will be pleasantly surprised to hear the guitar front and center, and actually pretty grungy sounding.
-
Audience 8.8 - The sound on this gets progressively better during the 1st song to the end due to the sound engineer dialing in the mix. Once it is set, the show cooks. This is a beginning to end recording, meaning you get every little moment of this evening, practically just travelling back in time to the evening of the gig then sitting in the crowd as the band does their thing. Audience 7.3 - This tape is a welcome find mainly due to the scarcity of live Amon Duul tapes in existence. Sound is not hi-fi, there is some tape noise, there is general noise, and there is music which thankfully can be heard through the din. Actually the mid to highs are intact, some bottom end is missing, it’s still not a completely annoying tape at all, can be enjoyed for what it is.
-
Pro Broadcast 9.3 - A long improvisational track which really is, in my opinion, way ahead of everyone else in terms of trying new things and being completely off the cuff with sounds and textures. It’s not like traditional space rock, in fact it is not even rock, although the band are players and can make noise when they want to make noise. The fidelity is solid, I can hear everything very clearly and ambience is abundant.
