The detail, the precision, the mix, the dynamics, the atmosphere, the playing, the quality is nothing short of PERFECT. So, if I had the information on these tapers I would ask them for copies of anything else they recorded. It’s THAT GOOD folks.

  • Audience 7.7 - Noisy but good, exciting atmosphere. The music seems to move through the audience, the audience responds, it’s kind of cool to hear.
  • Los Angeles 1975 - Soundboard 9.5 Offenburg 1977 Audience 8.9 - A very strong tape for sure. Clear, and pretty dynamic with great bass, and deep drums with guitars very tuneful and nicely placed in the overall mix. Lovely. Buffalo 1977 Audience 8.6 - The recording here is pretty clear, it definitely does lean towards the upper mid and highs but there thankfully is enough bottom to keep it from being irritating. Your ears do adjust quickly, and at some point you begin to notice it is actually very decent…think of it as maybe a superb AM radio broadcast (it isn’t, but it sounds like it could have been). Boston 1978 Audience 8.8 - It is apparent that very good gear recorded this show, the sound is warm and rounded, not a jagged, raucous tape like a lot of the amateur recordings can turn out to be. The live mix sound is good too, and the live mix is spot on. I think this tape offers a lot and you’ll probably give it multiple spins…especially after you hear Schenker just RIPPING on guitar. What a badass!     Audience 8.4 - Decent, maybe a little bit thin (needs more low end) but all highs are really there, so a bit of compression is not going to hurt this if someone wants to re-master it.  A good one for the collection nonetheless.

    Audience 8.1 - This tape is slightly overloaded but mastering has kept the distortion to a bare minimum so it’s actually pretty damn good. The sound is forceful, with drums and bass driving the beat home and guitar thankfully riding over the top of it in good clarity. A total jam fest it is, fans of UFO will love love love this early gig!
  • Audience 8.7 - Clear and bright recording. Point of Special Interest: The official double release of "Strangers in the Night" is composed of 3 different shows and not all of the Chicago, Amphitheater show, like many might think, so you will find some of the same titles on this one that are different recordings. This is the rare 1978 Chicago show in its entirety with nothing left out, hence the title "The Real Strangers in the Night".  
  • Audience/Pro? 8.7 - It sounds like this is recorded from the audience, but to my ears it sounds like it may be a television audience or in some kind of studio. It sounds like microphones were placed strategically, and there’s no ancillary noises that you would expect from a stealth audience recording.
  • Audience 9.4 - Excellent sound and atmosphere, enough audience participation near the taper to remind you that you're part of a live concert but not enough to interfere which in my estimation is what lends a missing element to most sdbrd tapes. I'd officially release this if I was the band.

  • Ranges 7.7 to 8.7 - Not a lot out there on this band. After listening you will gain an appreciation for them and maybe compare them to ELP and you could be forgiven for that. Sound quality is not spectacular but neither is it dog shit. I think this music should be remastered because it is excellent heavy prog!
  • Audience 7.8 – 8.5 - Why the variable rating? Because the music was excessively loud and during extreme sections of music, there is distortion right in the middle frequency. What does this mean? Well, before the re-master it meant that you could not hear what was going on except for quieter passages (which incidentally sound great, and there is a lot of it since this was a band that played complex, dynamic music) but thankfully now a lot of that has been mitigated. It is still cluttered a bit when at full volume (really gives you an idea of how loud this show must have been) but MUCH better and easier on the ears now. Is it worth it?  I would say probably yes, but I know most prog enthusiasts are also critical of audio fidelity so there’s that. For me, I still got into this one, knowing the improvement made to the tape allowed me to give it a chance and I am glad I did.   • Soundboard 8.7 - Raw, unfiltered and killer. Sure, it ain’t perfect, it is a little squishy and compressed but it’s all there, and there’s plenty of headroom if you want to add Equalizer or even some reverb would help.
  • Soundboard 9.3 - Mixed well for a live broadcast, so you get a really good sense of what this band was about on the live stage. Now, I always kind of wondered really what these guys were about, and history can now reveal all of that, but my take is that they certainly owed a lot to Rush – that said they took that general presentation to a more FM friendly place.   • FM Radio Broadcast 8.8 - A tape that has held up decently over the years but does not have the expected clarity associated with a radio broadcast. That being said, it’s still very good, has the depth and dynamics just enough for a progressive rock performance on par with the likes of ELP. Great material here…a band that should have continued on but for disco taking over and what not.   • Radio Broadcast 8.3 - A few generations down, some hiss, but you will love it anyway.
  • Audience 9.6 - What makes this such an excellent recording imho is that the sound is not only really balanced, but mix-wise it is also superb. I mean, the punch of the bass, the crispness of the drums, the airiness of the keys, guitar right in the pocket…fuck what else do you want? It’s just excellence and your ears be the judge but mine are pretty spot on usually so…yeah, get this one.
  • Audience 8.4 - A rather decent tape that delivers a clear representation of the music happening on stage. I found that maybe the levels were a tad hot, but I prefer that over low levels that you end up having to crank up causing terrible hiss. This one is not suffering at all from that problem!
  • Audience 7.2 - Sound not good but artwork is spectacular. For collectors only.
  • Audience 8.8 - A strong recording, clear and a good mix allowing you to hear all of the on stage happenings. A small amount of hiss is present, but this is inconsequential especially while the music is playing. A real good one and a real good tour.
