Audience 8.7 - Believe it or not, few excellent recordings exist of Motley Crue from these early days. This one is actually very decent, with a lot of festival atmosphere, and even though the recording is “distant” it is clear and you get a good round bass, clear and loud guitar, and vocals very clear. Virtually no muck in this tape, you can turn it up loud too because there’s good headroom. Audience 8.5 - an interesting tape, sometimes flawed but quickly recovering. It’s an old tape after all, and I am glad someone dug it out of their shoebox and made it available. The stadium PA systems all have funny mixes sometimes, with how things are panned, etc. etc. and this one is no exception. Audience 8.8 - I really love this recording, it has great atmosphere, and a lively, raw intensity that gets you completely sucked into the concert. Audience 8.4 - A very rare treat, to hear a complete “Preservation” era show. There’s really not a lot of 1973 recording around. This one sounds just fine, while not venturing too far in either direction dynamically, and some lack of clarity down low in the spectrum…but the upper mids and highs seem fine. It’s a good recording that could use your own EQ flavoring to round it into shape. I am happy to have this as I have not heard many, if any, ’73 tapes as good as this. Audience 8.6 - A kind of bumpy ride at times, being immersed in the middle of a rowdy audience, but the music comes through surprisingly well for such a massive cataclysm it must have been! It’s kind of fun, it’s a time capsule, and as long as I can hear the music in a clear way, even if it is not “hi-fi”, it’s fine by me. Soundboard 9.7 - This is what keeps me excited about collecting…this right here. I was not very knowledgeable of their live catalog (whatever is out there, IDK) and so I did not know what to expect with this. Man, just man, it literally BLEW me away! Just amazing in every way – and the playing, along with pristine sound quality, it’s just a no-brainer. I did not know how accomplished these guys were, the musicianship is off the charts good. Very tight, very professional, and great songs for the style they play in – they even cover Lynyrd Skynyrd as a nod to their counterparts. Good, I mean, GREAT stuff! CD1 FM Broadcast 8.8 A little hiss present, and a little “compression” but a good tight sound nonetheless. The Miami 78 is Audience 8.3 With some big hall boom in the kick drum. CD 2 Audience 8.5 Thin in some places, but opens wider as it goes along. Taper possibly moves closer, and sound improves. CD 3 Audience 8.6 A loud, boisterous, beer soaked rock and roll affair with sound quality that I would describe as clear but missing some mid-band punch. It’s nice to have a chronological history sometimes, you get to hear a band just gain more and more confidence (not as if this band ever lacked any). This band’s sound and style really was custom made for these years but after that it dropped off the map. Too bad really, it’s a good time rock and roll music and transcends time.
