Audience 9.2 - One thing you get from a great audience tape that a soundboard can't reproduce is how the vocals actually sound. What I mean is that when a signal goes directly from mic to board, it's going to be nothing like what the vocalist will sound like to the audience. The PA system translates vocals to the ears the way the band wants it to sound like, and therefore a truer representation of the live sound that you go to a show to get. This tape delivers that and more - atmosphere, and great individual instruments (especially drums), this is really good stuff. Heart St. Paul Civic Center St. Paul, MN 12-05-1987 Disc 1 1. Audience 9.0 - This recording has a real vintage feel to it, like a fine antique it is a little brassy but nice and clear with enough dynamic to get a feel for the mood and the times. Boston 1973 - Soundboard 9.7 - Professionally recorded for broadcast, as you can expect with a jazz rock combo the sound has to be extraordinary due to the nature of the musicianship and sound they each produce - in other words it is easier to manage the sound when it isn't over distorted and ear-splittingly loud. This is, as a result, a lovely sounding tape (during the quiet sections there is some minor tape noise in the background but it disappears as soon as the music starts). New York 1974 - Audience 9.0 - I had a hard time figuring out whether this was an aud or a soundboard because of the proximity of the vocals. I determined it had to be a semi-professional audience recording because of the crowd responses being pretty well picked up in the tape after songs...if it was a board tape that would not be as audible (if at all). But it could still easily pass as a board tape if you didn't take that into account - so is it a board tape? It is very good for this venue, Carnegie Hall acoustics did not lend themselves well to loud rock music, if this is indeed an audience tape they did a fantastic job! Audience 8.7 - A recording that won't set the night on fire but will provide enough warmth and light to keep you in front of it. I only noticed some issues with how the cymbals sounded, to me it almost sounded like tape hiss - I had to really concentrate to tell what it was at first, but, it does seem to be Keith banging away incessantly as he is known to do. Towards the end of the tape, the cymbal anomaly seems to get worse. It is still a decent old tape. Soundboard 8.8 - a rather dusty old tape but oh how glorious it is! So many years later and this unpolished gem finally surfaces! Audience 8.8 - The sound of this recording owes almost all of its characteristics to the house PA sound. What I mean is this: The recorder very accurately captured exactly what this gig sounded like, and so if there is any particular thing that is not as good as it could be, we need to talk to the sound man. This tape captures this show in excellent quality, I would say the rating reflects more what the sound itself actually was like at this show - not great (for me I just did not love the drum sounds, and thought the guitars could be louder) but really very good. I think it is a matter of preference then, because some people might really like the way this show sounds coming out of the main PA system. Brand New - Soundboard/Studio Quality -For a band with such a vast output, there is very little material out there of Rush's music in its embryonic stage. In fact, the only glimpse we've been given of their songs as works in progress have been the few times they've debuted compositions live prior to their being recorded. But to hear actual studio demos, well, that's another thing entirely. Here they are the power Windows Album fully “Demoed” along with a unreleased studio track!

Brand New - Soundboard - Here we have a totally unheard, uncirculated soundboard recording of Van Halen during their "Diver Down "tour ("Hide Your Sheep tour") on October 24th, 1982. This is the last of three consecutive nights Van Halen played at The Worcester Centrum in 1982. It appears that not even an audience recording of these Worcester shows have circulated previously.
-
Brand New - Live and Studio - During 1979 the band recorded 11 tracks (studio demos), made now available on this CD, wiling to secure a record deal with some American Record Label. Randy Rhoads later left Quiet Riot after accepting an offer to form a new band with ex-Black Sabbath vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. Along with this demo this CD also contains various rare tracks recorded from 1975 to 1979. Songs that remained unreleased.

Brand New - Radio Broadcasts - USA leg of Savatage tour like the Vol I, here you can listen to 17 tracks recorded on The Palace, Hollywood/Los Angeles and The Venue in Dallas, Texas. The problem here is to decide what’s the best leg of the tour! Both CDs sound amazing and the band delivers a great performance wherever they play.

Brand New - Live Marquee Club November 29th, 1985 and demos early '85 and late '86. Butler formed a short-lived group in 1984 after leaving Black Sabbath for the first time. Butler wrote some songs intended for the project, but the group did not record or release any material. This mid-80s project featured a fascinating hodgepodge of players as the bass legend was joined by Sabbath's touring keyboardist Jezz Woodroffe and Persian Risk's vocalist Carl Sentence among others. The band was never able to release anything beyond a couple of demos that remain a fascinating relic.

Audience 8.7 - This is a GREAT 8.7, and what I mean is that while technically speaking the sonics are not ideal, the entirety of this recording is GREAT! It has a feel to it, it captures a moment in a highly tangible way, from the feeling of being in the pit, to the sense of time and space, and the "in your face" nature of the audio itself. Released by the reformed band in 2013 in a very limited run on CD-R, this is actually that same title re-worked. The audio is the same but the package is expanded, the original was a very simple, black and white 4 panel sheet with nothing printed inside and the disc placed in without any protection. It was a CD-R burn in fact, and basically my understanding was it wasn't even sold but handed out to people, family, friends, fans, etc. Not even sure how many they made, probably less than 1,000 for sure. They are all gone now, but this re-worked version supersedes that with the upgraded packaging.

Soundboard 8.8 - This is the one the fans have all been waiting for. There are a lot of recordings out there from this period but NONE sound like this! Ferocious! The drums are frightening, vocals up front and scary AF. Midrange is a little busy, but it all sounds so much better than what I am used to listening to, and you know the reality is that unless you are listening to a board tape, this band is damn hard to listen to just because of the cacophony they generate on stage. So, the consensus here is that this has to be considered as a MUST have. SLAYER Blue Moon Oberhausen, Germany 20th June 1985 1. Introduction 2. Hell Awaits 3. Aggressive Perfector 4. Captor of Sin 5. Audience 8.8 - Anytime you get a halfway decent sounding GFR show you grab it, because let's face it these guys were just balls to the wall loud and normal taping gear could not handle it. But, every once in a while you find something...and again it serves to remind just how badass this band was. This is a really good recording considering how mind-numbingly loud it had to be there. It is not clear as a bell, but it's got some great qualities and is clear enough to hear each band member well...and the POWER geez, oh man it's insane here. Glasgow - Audience 8.7 - A great tape to hear the very beginnings of Ozzy's solo career. and the brilliance of Randy Rhoads. Clear, and decent separation of instruments. Newcastle - Audience 8.5 - Slightly muddy but it has the bones of a good tape recording. I feel like if this old tape was re-mastered with AI tools it would shine. Nothing is buried beyond salvation here, in fact I would say if you just keep listening your ears adjust to the sound and it gets better and better. Thankfully guitars are distinct, vocals too, it is really the bottom end that is a bit diffuse and rumbly. Audience 8.9 - Quite an interesting tape, the proximity to the stage makes the energy palpable - good mix of both guitars and the amazing tone they had at this time. I am happy to say that this is well balanced, with a decent sonic quality that makes it more interesting to the ears than a board tape. Soundboard 8.8 - Not the best mix, you won't get everything in a vibrant, democratically mixed way but even so it's going to deliver in other ways for you. The vocals are living room clear, organ and drums occupy the next level of bandwidth, and then comes bass...leaving guitars in the background until they are brought forward during solos or during some of the songs where guitar is a key component. It's spotty there, but seems to come and go in the mix (when it comes it is fine, but then it oddly disappears). Audience 9.4 - Absolutely fantastic tape! This gives you everything and more, including some intangible aspects that people ought not to disregard, and that is atmosphere. What was it like at the show? I want that immersive experience, and I want a clear sounding tape, and I am willing to forgive the lack of some dynamics in exchange for that - but here you don't have to make that sacrifice because this recording is VERY dynamic! I love the meaty drums, and vocals are soaring above and very clear. Guitar is MONSTEROUS too, and mixed properly. This is almost a must have, actually it is good enough to be a top 5 at least for the Tony Martin era. Werchter - Audience 8.8 - A definite party-vibe this night in Belgium, the band is hot and the sound is pumping (great low end). Brussels - Audience 8.9 - Very similar to the Werchter tape with maybe more audience participation. The main difference to my ears is the guitar, where it sits in the mix, it is a tad better, brighter, more forward in this recordings. The low end here is a little tighter too.
