• Studio Quality 9.6 - When you look at these multi-disc sets, you have to wonder if you are just getting the same old stuff recycled over and over again…well, to be sure, there is some song duplication – no way around that. On the other hand, there’s also a lot of stuff that might be new to you, and therein lays the attraction. You have to sometimes just go for it, and in the end you end up with a more complete assemblage of materials. I found this particular set rich with alternate versions and other uncommon outtakes, and well worth the effort. • Audience 7.9/Soundboard 8.8 - A rough and tumble recording for a rough and tumble show. Quite frankly, it’s a perfect match, but obviously when the soundboard portions kick in it is a relief to the ears. The audience tape is one of the better sounding ones of the tour – we’ve all heard the dismal sounding ones and this is by far better. The video footage gives you more appreciation for the tapers efforts, because it just looks like it would have been a miracle to have produced anything remarkable in that venue. My hats off to the tapers! • Audience 8.8 - A solid recording, with just a hint of bass-rattle in the lower extremities but it is not problematic. • Soundboard 8.3 - I found a lot to sink into with this very early Megadeth recording. First off, it’s better sounding than the old tape that floated around for a while, as someone took the time to re-master it and pitch correct it which makes a big difference. It’s still a little narrow and thin, but you’ll be blown away by what you are hearing, if you have even a mild interest in the formative years of Megadeth, this show is a must. Band: Megadeth Venue: Country Club: Reseda, CA, USA Date: September 19, 1985 Time: 42:20 The last show with Mike Albert (who was replacing Chris in the tour). Setlist: 1. • Soundboard 9.4 - Consistently excellent across the entire set, and the great thing is there is minimal song duplication throughout. • Audience 8.2 and 8.4 - Both recordings, while limited in their own respective ways, are both MUST HAVES for the early Motley Crue collectors because they are pretty listenable, with the nod going to the later show even though it is narrower in its bandwidth (it is, however, much clearer). The ‘81 show is a little cluttered in the center, but has broader range and sounds “hot” so to speak. • Audience 9.3 - This recording has excellent timbre, it’s pleasing to the ears with a great balance of low and high, the highs are very articulate, impressively so. • Audience 9.2 - Solid recording with just enough of an atmosphere, I mean, the only thing you might notice is the vocals having a little hall “verb” and thus not having the precision necessary to hear every word clear as a bell…but the overall sound, vibe, the concert recording is excellent and highly recommended. • Audience 8.5 - Despite being a clean recording (probably from a master), this is captured from possibly middle of venue meaning it does sound a little distant (vocals are the giveaway). At times, it sounds like the tapers try to adjust their position and the sound gets fuller, although the music is still kind of blended together and you don’t get distinct guitar notes, even though you get the overall impact of guitar – now solos are a different thing, because those seem to soar above it all and are actually much clearer and more present in the mix. • Audience 8.6 - A lively and loud tape, with great atmosphere, in that you get the hall acoustics without unnecessary boominess or echo, just the right amount to give you that sense of being there. That makes for a unique listening experience because this show does not sound like the next show or the one before, the playing and arrangements are going to be different but so is the venue and acoustics. As long as the recording is good, and this one is pretty darn good, you will enjoy the show. • Audience 8.1 - Tape is not clear but also not muddy, it’s just typical of early 70’s gear not being able to handle freakishly loud rock bands. This recording highlights drums, guitars, and bass and vocals are in the background. That being said, the drums and guitars are pretty clear, and there’s plenty of the dueling guitar pyrotechnics on display. I don’t complain to have this show to hear, it’s clearly worth it to the collectors out there.
