  • Pro Studio 9.8 - Glorious sound quality, and the intimate setting of the Record Plant radio broadcasts back in the day is just perfect here because we all know what happened to this guy’s career after Margaritaville took off…would have been hard to reproduce such intimate settings after that. • Soundboard 9.3  - A very clean and mellow sounding board tape, and it suits the music well because everything is pinpoint accurate, which you really want as the playing is so well executed you need to hear it all as well as possible.   Grateful Dead May 19, 1974 Portland Coliseum Portland, OR Disc 1 Set 1 101 - Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo 102 - Mexicali Blues 103 - Big Railroad Blues 104 - Black Throated Wind 105 - Scarlet Begonias 106 - Beat It On Down The Line 107 - Tennessee Jed 108 - Me And Bobby McGee 109 - Sugaree 110 - Jack Straw 111 - It Must Have Been The Roses 112 - El Paso Disc 2 Set 1 cont'd 113 - Loose Lucy 114 - Money Money 115 - China Cat Sunflower 116 - I Know You Rider Set 2 117 - Tuning 118 - Promised Land 119 - Bertha 120 - Greatest Story Ever Told 121 - Ship Of Fools 122 - Weather Report Suite Disc 3 Set 2 cont'd 207 - Wharf Rat 208 - Big River 209 - Peggy-O 210 - Tico Tico 211 - Truckin' 212 - Mind Left Body Jam 213 - Not Fade Away 214 - Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad 215 - One More Saturday Night 216 - U.S. Blues 217 - Johnny B. • Pro Studio 9.6 - Crystal clear and in fact does not even sound like it was recorded off air, these are certainly pre-broadcast. The Smiths BBC 1983-1986 01. • Soundboard 9.1 - I rate this as a soundboard because even though I am not 100% sure, the giveaway is the drums. There’s no way this is from the audience as the drums are in stereo, obviously professionally mixed and panned in a stereo sound field. The Smiths Queen Margaret Hall Glasgow, Scotland March 2, 1984 1. -Hand In Glove 2. -Heaven Knows 3. -Girl Afraid 4. -This Charming Man 5. -Pretty Girls Make Graves 6. -Still Ill 7. -This Night Has Opened My Eyes 8. -Barbarism Begins At Home 9. -Back To The Old House 10. -What Difference Does It Make 11. -Reel Around The Fountain 12. -You've Got Everything Now 13. -Handsome Devil
  • Soundboard 9.7 - An amazing sounding tape, the bass sounds wonderful and all instruments mixed perfectly. A great one! The Smiths May 4th, 1984 Markthalle, Hamburg, Germany 01. • Audience 9.2 - A nice and bright tape with a good solid bass holding it all down. The Smiths Royal Court Theatre Liverpool, UK. Feb. 8th, 1986 1. Montagues And Capulets 2. Shakespeare's Sister 3. I Want The One I Can't Have 4. Vicar In A Tutu 5. Frankly, Mr. Shankly 6. Marie's The Name - Rusholme Ruffians 7. The Boy With The Thorn In His Side 8. Cemetary Gates 9. Nowhere Fast 10. • Pro 9.6 -An obviously professionally recorded show, this will certainly provide the listener with a lot to love although I still like more atmosphere on a live recording than what is contained herein. The beginnings and endings do show the presence of an enthusiastic audience. The Smiths "Same Day Again" Oxford Apollo March 18th 1985 01. William It Was Really Nothing 02. Nowhere Fast 03. What She Said 04. Hand In Glove 05. How Soon Is Now? 06. Stretch Out And Wait 07. That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore 08. Shakespears Sister 09. Headmaster Ritual 10. Still Ill 11. Meat Is Murder 12. Miserable lie 13. Barbarism Begins At Home 14. You've Got Everything Now
  • Soundboard 8.8 - A dated sounding board tape, yes it is good but I can see how there are limitations with board tapes just as there are with audience tapes. If I was a fan I would still love this show, I mean, it’s clear and clean and it’s finely performed so there’s no real downside here. The Smiths Versailles, Paris 12-01-1984 01 - Intro 02 - William, It Was Really Nothing 03 - What She Said 04 - Nowhere Fast 05 - Reel Around The Fountain 06 - Heaven Knows Im Miserable Now 07 - How Soon Is Now? 08 - Still Ill 09 - Rusholme Ruffians 10 - This Charming Man 11 - Barbarism Begins At Home 12 - I Want The One I Can't Have 13 - Hand In Glove 14 - What Difference Does It Make? 15 - Handsome Devil 16 - Miserable Lie

  • Audience 9.5 - I love this recording, and concert. Fantastic vibe, inspired Prince, and taper who knew what to do. Audio quality is not only excellent but so is the live sound mix. • Soundboard 9.3 - There are moments in this recording that you swear it has to be one of Prince’s best ever – what got him so pumped up for this gig?  Maybe he was pumped for every gig but slightly more at certain gigs. I don’t know but this one got me pumped as well!  Love the energy and fluid playing.

  • Audience 9.5 - A lot of audience periphery (shouting and bustling) but nonetheless it’s a crystal clean and very dynamic recording. The energy is palpable and comes right out pretty much all the way through as the audience is very responsive and Prince most definitely fed off it. Guitar tone is perfection – vocals very nicely placed in the mix as is everything really. Great, great stuff!

Audience 9.3 - The ’92 Aftershow is equally excellent with just slight differences in tone and distance to come second place to the Bataclan show.

Pro 9.3 – The radio broadcasts here are great and as you would expect, since they are professionally recorded, but honestly I still prefer the Bataclan audience tape which says an awful lot about what a good job taper did on that.

Audience 8.8 - The final disc contains London ’99 audience tape which is the weakest of this set but still decent enough to enjoy. Sounds somewhat distant (not in the stadium sense but small venue distant).

  • “Audience” studio 8.7 An amateur recording it might be, but like any rock and roll band in rehearsals you probably weren’t too worried about doing professional recordings. They were not exactly shiny and perfect here, getting ready for a tour, so yeah I understand the nature of the tapes and I still like it. Some tape hiss, some lo-fi moments but all in all fascinating fly-on-the-wall stuff. See Artwork for Track Listings (sorry I didn't feel like typing it all out!)
