Soundboard 8.9 - Man, this is just amazing. It sounds a little dated, maybe a little faded, but definitely NOT jaded! The live sound mix isn't perfect here, I think guitars should be louder (but at least in this board I can hear every note of the bass) but in defense of the guitars I can hear both of them somewhat distinctly. Vocals do suffer, they are pushed well back of the mix, at times they get closer to the right spot, but it's all good they are there but just not at the center of the mix. I think this is classic stuff. Slayer Country Club Reseda, LA, CA. September 7th 1985 Hell Awaits Tour 1. Hell Awaits 2. Aggressive Perfector 3. Captor Of Sin 4. The Final Command 5. FM Broadcast 8.9 - Good because it's a broadcast, but there is some compression so you do not get the crisp, soaring highs and separation of instruments is not perfect. It's a somewhat "rough" professional recording and I am not talking about just age or generation of tape either - some of this is probably in the actual recording and/or live sound mix. That being said - it's a really good tape nonetheless and worthy of your collection. Blue Oyster Cult Centrum Worcester, MA. September 24, 1982 01. Pre-show interview 02. Brand New - Alice Cooper Live 1987! Remember that mythical “The Nightmare Returns Tour”? Yup! The one with Kane Roberts and that great track list! Part from the video “The Nightmare Returns this is the only Live show properly recorded from that tour. Here we have the pre-FM master with a superb sound (better than the video!) and a stunning performance! -
Brand New - Def Leppard played a "Slang tour" show in Johannesburg, South Africa on 5th December 1996. 13 songs from the show were recorded for broadcast. The band played in front of 37,500 ecstatic and very loud fans. This was the first of three stadium shows played on the mini tour of the country. -
Soundboard 9.4 - A lovely bright and clear sound, only noise I hear is between songs. I also love the fact that this dates from a period where there's not an abundance of Kansas recordings. I have to consider this a must have for Kansas collectors. Audience 8.4 - A distant recording without a lot of dynamics but the audio is clear enough especially vocals and guitar. Low end is not in abundance but the bass notes are audible and distinct which helps this tape become something collectors should want, it is, after all, a 1975 concert and fills that part of the collection. The take-away? A guitar-centric tape, a great show, worthy of the collection but not winning any awards for scintillating dynamics. Soundboard 8.8 - Not the best mix, you won't get everything in a vibrant, democratically mixed way but even so it's going to deliver in other ways for you. The vocals are living room clear, organ and drums occupy the next level of bandwidth, and then comes bass...leaving guitars in the background until they are brought forward during solos or during some of the songs where guitar is a key component. It's spotty there, but seems to come and go in the mix (when it comes it is fine, but then it oddly disappears). Audience 8.9 - Quite an interesting tape, the proximity to the stage makes the energy palpable - good mix of both guitars and the amazing tone they had at this time. I am happy to say that this is well balanced, with a decent sonic quality that makes it more interesting to the ears than a board tape. Audience 8.8 - Anytime you get a halfway decent sounding GFR show you grab it, because let's face it these guys were just balls to the wall loud and normal taping gear could not handle it. But, every once in a while you find something...and again it serves to remind just how badass this band was. This is a really good recording considering how mind-numbingly loud it had to be there. It is not clear as a bell, but it's got some great qualities and is clear enough to hear each band member well...and the POWER geez, oh man it's insane here. Brand New - Live Marquee Club November 29th, 1985 and demos early '85 and late '86. Butler formed a short-lived group in 1984 after leaving Black Sabbath for the first time. Butler wrote some songs intended for the project, but the group did not record or release any material. This mid-80s project featured a fascinating hodgepodge of players as the bass legend was joined by Sabbath's touring keyboardist Jezz Woodroffe and Persian Risk's vocalist Carl Sentence among others. The band was never able to release anything beyond a couple of demos that remain a fascinating relic.
