  • Audience 9.5 - Astounding for a 1970 era audience tape, it's got amazing atmosphere and plenty of headroom. The balance here is really good with vocals where they should be, which is very up front, but drums sound fantastic here and the piano sounds perfectly mixed between the two.   • Audience 8.9 - One of the early efforts by Dan Lampinski to capture live music with good equipment. It's a decent job, you can tell clearly that the guy had a knack for it. The atmosphere he managed to get on tape was always very realistic and managed to remain unobtrusive even if it got loud.   • Soundboard 9.4 - Clear and bold (especially percussion) capturing a very fine creative period of the band (the dual guitar with Neal Schon being especially notable). I did notice a slight amount of distortion in the lower frequencies but it's barely noticeable.   • Soundboard 9.0 -A somewhat confusing mix, almost as if a ghost is present in the board! Well what it actually is might not be that spooky at all, just the effects loop they use for what seems to be the kick drum, or drums in general. It's their signature, a background "noise" the resembles phasing, and gives the band a unique sound. Does it work for a soundboard tape is the question - and I think it can be slightly distracting but it's not used continuously. Other than that I think this is quite OK.   • Audience 9.4 - This is a band that has attained the kind of status that warrants a serious examination of their live "bootleg" catalog. In particular, I think the years 1987 to 1992 are the important years, and any tapes that are listenable are considered collectible but the ones that are excellent, as this one is, should be sought out. Why? Because Guns 'N Roses was more than the sum of their parts, and the music that happened on stage more often than not seemed to hold that most elusive quality - Magic.   • Audience 8.8 - The sound of this recording owes almost all of its characteristics to the house PA sound. What I mean is this: The recorder very accurately captured exactly what this gig sounded like, and so if there is any particular thing that is not as good as it could be, we need to talk to the sound man. This tape captures this show in excellent quality, I would say the rating reflects more what the sound itself actually was like at this show - not great (for me I just did not love the drum sounds, and thought the guitars could be louder) but really very good. I think it is a matter of preference then, because some people might really like the way this show sounds coming out of the main PA system.   • Audience 8.7 - This is a GREAT 8.7, and what I mean is that while technically speaking the sonics are not ideal, the entirety of this recording is GREAT! It has a feel to it, it captures a moment in a highly tangible way, from the feeling of being in the pit, to the sense of time and space, and the "in your face" nature of the audio itself. All in all I really enjoyed this for what it is and it is something I can definitely recommend highly.   • Soundboard 8.8 - This is the one the fans have all been waiting for. There are a lot of recordings out there from this period but NONE sound like this! Ferocious! The drums are frightening, vocals up front and scary AF. Midrange is a little busy, but it all sounds so much better than what I am used to listening to, and you know the reality is that unless you are listening to a board tape, this band is damn hard to listen to just because of the cacophony they generate on stage.   • Soundboard 8.8 - Not the best mix, you won't get everything in a vibrant, democratically mixed way but even so it's going to deliver in other ways for you. The vocals are living room clear, organ and drums occupy the next level of bandwidth, and then comes bass...leaving guitars in the background until they are brought forward during solos or during some of the songs where guitar is a key component. It's spotty there, but seems to come and go in the mix (when it comes it is fine, but then it oddly disappears).   • Audience 9.4 - Absolutely fantastic tape! This gives you everything and more, including some intangible aspects that people ought not to disregard, and that is atmosphere. What was it like at the show? I want that immersive experience, and I want a clear sounding tape, and I am willing to forgive the lack of some dynamics in exchange for that - but here you don't have to make that sacrifice because this recording is VERY dynamic! I love the meaty drums, and vocals are soaring above and very clear. Guitar is MONSTEROUS too, and mixed properly. This is almost a must have, actually it is good enough to be a top 5 at least for the Tony Martin era.   • Audience 8.7 - Loud and brassy, with some distortion on the cymbals at the high end. Taper must have been in the front row on the PA side of the stage. That being said, this is what makes this recording frightening to the ears, a terrifying journey into the unrelenting power and charisma of ELP in their mid 70's prime. There is nothing sedate about this live concert experience, and because it was recorded on very good equipment, even despite the overwhelming loudness of it, it's a rather true representation. Side Note: Jerusalem is a song with more mellow passages and here this recording absolutely shines, jumping quickly to a 9.2 rating and actually remaining better even during the loud segments as it starts to even out - this could be due to taper either moving further back, or making some other minor adjustment. Something certainly is changing with the recording as tape noise increases but the distortion lessens, this could mean he lowered the gain, so the volume had to be boosted during the transfer as his recording levels were much lower. Either way, it had a net positive effect. Unfortunately not the complete show.
