Audience 9.1 - A great sounding capture that is just a little further back than the previous night…still it’s really good because the dynamic range is wide and warm. The sound mix itself is not heavy on the guitars here, it’s really Mick and drums followed by the low rumble of the bass. Guitars are here just not the spotlight instrument which in my opinion I prefer them front and center. Alas, I found myself able to appreciate the contributions of everyone else for once. Audience 9.3 - A sweet recording that is so comfortable to listen to, so easy on the ears with a nice rolling bass and present but not obtrusive drums. Mick is above the fray where he should be and guitars swirl and hum beneath him…excellent! Audience 9.5 - Brilliant! After sound adjustments the PA system just cranks out the best, clearest sound you could hope for. Almost everything is clear and balanced in the mix, I mean it ain’t perfect (for instance we don’t get the best balance between Keith and Ron) but it’s darn good. The sound mix has nothing to do with how well the audio capture is but it factors slightly in the rating. Audience 8.9 - The capture here is as good as you could do, what you are hearing then is what the sound was like in a very literal sense. If you were sitting in tapers seats, your ears are now hearing what his ears heard at the time. That is all you can hope for and that is what this tape is. Soundboard 9.6 - A very very clean tape, still after all this time it has been properly preserved. Soundboard 9.1 - This is not a bad board tape, leans just a touch maybe on the more trebly side, giving bass the title of “second guitar” I guess. Still, it’s not a static board, it’s very exciting. Audience 9.3 - As good as it could be for a large stadium concert. Despite the soundmen fighting mic feedback issues during the first few songs, it certainly gets dialed in and becomes quite nice with the feeling of this being an event, the atmosphere, the way the sound sort of envelopes your ears and you get a sense of size and space. Cleveland 1981 is an FM Broadcast 9.2 which I had not heard before believe it or not, so, I was suitably impressed. Anyone would be appreciative! The second disc (and most of the 3rd) is Montreal 81 and is an FM Broadcast 8.9 due to a more subdued signal that does not take away any frequency range but rather slightly compresses the sound just a bit. Now I want the listener to realize that this is a subjective opinion, technically speaking the audio here is excellent so it’s a matter of personal taste in this case. The second half of disc 3 is all studio quality. Audience 9.2 - Even with the well known acoustics of Carnegie Hall being not ideal for taping (but very good for “live” concert hall sound), this taper did an admiral job. The sound is crisp, vibrant, and has great atmospherics. Obviously without that over-amped rock star PA insanity you get with most concert hall audience tapes of that time, this is more acoustic, generally speaking and therefore the sound does not get crowded or distorted. Audience 8.9 - Thankfully we have this amazing document because it’s quite fascinating. The sound is clear and bright, and has LOADS of ambience and immersive quality although I would not say it is “deep” or very rich sounding. It’s certainly kind of a typical guerilla recording but that someone went through the trouble and actually got the whole show in admirable fashion to me is the amazing part. The audience response to Donovan is the other amazing part and lends a lot to the excitement of the show. Really, really interesting one! SDBRD 9.2 - Would be rated even higher but for the fact that vocals are non-existent in this mix. Well, if you care about the lyrics, get a lyric sheet – meanwhile, the music is fine with a guitar clinic being put on by Clapton. Later in the set, the sound switches over to an audience recording (7.2) and the vocals and bass return. The main difference between this one and the one already listed here is that this is just the Tulip Bulb Auction Hall show without additional material (date here is correct) and different, I would say better, artwork.Cream "Live At Barbecue '67" Tulip Bulb Auction Hall Spalding, Lincolnshire, England May 29, 1967 1 -N.S.U. 4:47 2 -Sunshine Of Your Love 5:17 3 -We’re Going Wrong 5:47 4 -Steppin' Out 5:42 5 -Rollin' & Tumblin' 4:50 6 -Toad 7:06 7 -I'm So Glad 5:50 Eric Clapton: guitar, vocals Jack Bruce: bass, vocals Ginger Baker: drums

Audience 9.7 and Soundboard 9.3 - Opening for ELP, this is the short lived Robert Fleischman period just before the arrival of Steve Perry. Hard to find anything about this recording to complain about, it’s amazingly life-like and extremely dynamic – about the only fault is how short it is. Taper arrived late, but makes up for it with a stellar recording. The bonus concert is a KBFH broadcast of a show taped in New York in 1978 of excellent quality. Radio Broadcast 8.8 - This tape sounds a bit old and word but the music that it contains is pretty well “out there” and I can only imagine how many trips have been taken with this band playing in the background in the late 60’s. Audience 8.5 - We all are aware that this tape is not spectacular quality, it does what it needs to do and that is present a document of a great evening for Led Zeppelin. It’s quite magical in many respects, and really I think the quality is not disappointing considering some re-mastering of the tape has been done and it helps. Still this is worth having for history and for how good the band is playing.
