• Soundboard 9.8 - It's been a blast hearing all these killer Nuge board tapes that have surfaced recently. This one is a rip-roaring beast, within the first three minutes you know your going to just get annihilated. The audio quality is redonkulus and the band is just amazing, as is Ted's scorching, ripping lead work. Fantastic! Ted Nugent Richmond Coliseum Richmond, VA. January 6th 1979 1. • Audience 8.9 - This is a good, solid recording with a pleasant mix of deep bottom (and detailed kick drum) and clear highs. Definitely this has to be one of the best audios from this tour that is not a soundboard. STRYPER Austin Opry House Austin, Texas 1.22.89 01. Intro - Battle Hymn Of The Republic 02. • Soundboard 9.1 - A decent if slightly muted mix, although drums and vocals retain more of an animated feel about their sound. I like this period, it sounds very 1970's (as if Frank ever really sounded any different) but I am not greedy and I take any board tape I can get, this one is certainly worthy of the collection. • Soundboard 9.4 - Even though I am less of a hardcore metalhead these days compared to, say, when I was in my 20's, I can honestly say I still enjoy listening to Megadeth music. The fact is, when you get a recording this good, when you can hear everything clearly, you better understand the genius that is Dave Mustaine. Let's face it - the guy is just gifted. How you can sing and play those insane, complex chord patterns, I will never know. • Studio Quality 8.7/9.0 - Here you have the ultimate rare collection if you are into that early, classic mid 80's Megadeth (which most are). I know this has had repeated plays in my house! • Soundboard 9.7 - A killer one in every way, including an absolutely devastating performance delivered by the band. This is peak Triumph, and simply a must have. • Audience 9.5 - Astounding for a 1970 era audience tape, it's got amazing atmosphere and plenty of headroom. The balance here is really good with vocals where they should be, which is very up front, but drums sound fantastic here and the piano sounds perfectly mixed between the two. I can't find too much to complain about with this one. Fantastic! • Audience 8.9 - One of the early efforts by Dan Lampinski to capture live music with good equipment. It's a decent job, you can tell clearly that the guy had a knack for it. The atmosphere he managed to get on tape was always very realistic and managed to remain unobtrusive even if it got loud. • Soundboard 9.3 - This is not the complete show, but what we do have is required listening. Some minor technical flaws present on a couple of occasions, these aren't deal-breakers though. • Soundboard 9.4 - Clear and bold (especially percussion) capturing a very fine creative period of the band (the dual guitar with Neal Schon being especially notable). I did notice a slight amount of distortion in the lower frequencies but it's barely noticeable. The mix does change towards the end of No One To Depend On and a lot of the boominess and excessive volume is dialed back so it mitigates any distortion present. SANTANA Denver Coliseum Denver, CO. • The Houston Punk/Grunge rock scene of the late 80's and early 90's produced a very diverse and highly talented assortment of bands spawned inside the 610 Loop surrounding the downtown metroplex. Chief among those was a ferocious punk rock (or better, "Burly Pig Rock") band called SPUNK. Fronted by Tod Waters, a mercurial character with non-stop energy, talent, and bravado who to this day still creates dynamic rock and roll (as evidenced by the newest release of his current band DIE FAST). This new release features a pair of never before available soundboard recordings from the downstairs room at the legendary Fitzgerald's Club.
