• Soundboard 8.9 - Kinda cool when you get these board tapes that pan a guitar, and then one other lead instrument to the other side, which in this case is keyboards. I think this allows for an examination of the instrument in question, so you might find yourself listening once and concentrating on guitar, then another time you’ll give drums and keys more attention…and that is why this show might have you coming back several times for more.  Interesting! • Atlanta 1977 Audience 8.6 - At times the tape shines (quieter sections) but for the louder parts (most of the concert) the bass overtakes guitar, and the bass is not boomy so it is not an annoying thing it’s more of a live mix thing. Clarity is very good but not great, frequencies are all intact here, the sound can breathe a little, it’s not a bad tape and it is not a great tape…and I think the consensus is that you would benefit from having it in the collection. Louisville 1977 Audience 8.7 - The sound here borders on distortion but manages to stay within a sane level of tolerance due to exceptional re-mastering (which is so difficult, to keep highs and mids but lose clipping, it’s a task I would not want myself). If taper was able to manage his levels, this would have been one of the best audience tapes of all time…you can hear the quality, but yeah, some problems there with the upper level distortion keep it as a very good tape as opposed to extremely great. Still, I have to say this is well worth having. Milwaukee 1977 Audience 8.2 - This is the kind of tape that is hard to get through without needing some major adjusting. I can tell you only that even after careful re-mastering, it is still an average tape with some decent moments but mostly difficult on the ears. It’s saving grace?  It’s a brand new discovery, and is only popping up for the first time since it was first recorded. I enjoyed the quieter parts (such as Wish You Were Here, and the acoustic portions of the Pigs suites). • Stockholm 1972 SDBRD 9.1 - Some minor tape hiss present but otherwise it’s quite good for its age. It was recorded well, I mean, the sound to me is very organic and that suits this style of music. Princeton 1973 SDBRD 9.3 - First thing you’ll notice is the lively, massive drums, and a good, round, full bass followed by sharp and clear guitar tone. A very very nice board tape! Nottingham 1975 SDBRD  8.7 - A somewhat subdued sound (tape age?) but pretty clear and could maybe just use a little EQ to bring out the frequencies…and also a little volume boost but other than that it’s a good tape that could be great. • Fillmore East 1970 Soundboard 8.8 - Clear although not bristling with perfection is a very good early period SMB recording Honolulu 1970 Soundboard 8.8 - A tape that needs one song to dial in the live mix but then gets much better. Still, it’s very good but not sparkling and bright…just good enough to rank pretty high in the category of the formative Steve Miller anthology of concert tapes. San Rafael 1970 Soundboard 9.1 - This is a really nice recording that exemplifies why it is so cool to hear tapes of an artists’ earlier career works before they made it to the big time. This certainly shows the vulnerability and the possibility at the same time. An artist who is still not 100% convincing but clearly has the tool set necessary to advance…and advance he did! • Santa Monica 1974 Audience 8.7 - A tape that takes a song to balance out and adjust but once it gets going is quite good. Some signs of age, but it has held up reasonably well and makes a nice addition to any collection. Be aware there is a tape situation during Dancing With The Moonlit Knight where the sound phases back and forth across the speakers, sounding as if the show was in quadraphonic, and the tape machine struggled but it lasts only a couple of minutes.  Not a complete show, we only have 47 minutes but it’s better to have this than nothing at all. Quebec City 1974 Audience 8.9 - A very clear and strong tape that does take a minute to settle in, with tapers carrying on occasionally but eventually chilling out…they don’t annoy too much thank goodness! The performance here is stellar, the audience very responsive. A memorable evening. • Audience 8.5 - Certainly a mainstay title in the huge catalog of live Metallica boots. Why?  Because it is the classic line-up and it sounds reasonably good, even though the twin guitar attack is not clearly defined. The band was making a statement around this time, and that much is certainly evident with these Ride The Lightening tour tapes. Metallica Stockholm, Sweden 12-12-1984 1. Ecstacy Of Gold 2. • Audience 8.4 - Not a bad stadium recording that has a huge atmosphere and consequently not the best definition, although Roger soars high above with his articulate vocals. • Audience 8.1 - An old, very fragile tape was found and YEARS of grime and muck were removed to reveal a little bit of music. Still, on the scale of things Zeppelin, this tape is for completists only. Thankfully though it exists and has been wrapped in a very fine looking package. It deserves at least that much. Funny thing though, in listening to this, the bass is clear comparatively speaking and has a brassy, round sound that allows you to hear the notes he is playing. It’s not just a rumbling “low end” mess here, and so I appreciated that. Super excited audience also helps propel the recording a little bit.
