Broadcasts 8.8/9.4 - A little variation depending on the source of the recording in question (all fully annotated in the notes), what you get here is a collection of broadcasts over the air during 1969 and 1970 when music was in full change mode and experimentation and blending of genres was all the rage. Blodwyn Pig certainly has to be included in that product description with their jazz-tinged hard rock akin to Jethro Tull without flute (substitute sax instead). Makes sense, since Mick Abrahams helped define Tull’s sound in the beginning days. This is great stuff though and is HIGHLY recommended. Audience 9.4 - A wonderful, warm, full bodied recording that beckons you in from the first note. Say what you will about Rod Stewart but his voice works with this stuff, and even here in 1982 as long as you can’t see him you can appreciate the rock and roll pedigree he brings to the stage. Yeah, I was rather turned off by his image for quite some time, but hearing him live you just find a way to look past that. Audience 8.7 - I had a hard time determining whether it was the recording or the PA that caused this tape to fall below the usually excellent quality recordings coming out of the Inglewood Forum around this same time. It’s not terrible; the main issue was an overcrowding of the middle bandwidth. So you get plenty of bottom end and soaring high end (where most guitar leads and vocals, and yes, cymbals are clear) but a lack of separation in that crucial middle. That leaves us with a tape clearly made on decent gear, somewhere in the middle of the venue it sounds like, and likely a master source (zero tape noise), but just not delivering the kind of clarity you would want when you are trying to hear the magical guitar interplay, especially Joe Walsh who just has his own musicality that perks your ears up. Still, a good tape that is worthy of exploration and much appreciated being from that wonderful line-up that featured perennial fave Joe Walsh. Audience 8.7 - Not too bad for 1972, this tape has some nice energy, and not to say it doesn’t have limitations, but it seems to deliver a lot more than the expectation. You have to accept that the hall is a touch echoey, or at least the guitar seems to bounce off the wall to give a very short reverb effect. It’s not a distraction at all, in fact it is exactly how it sounded at the show – the recording is very accurate. Audience 9.1 - This show is divided into two sets, with both sounding similar but the 1^st set is just a touch rougher in the sense that I hear a tiny bit of channel overload (not distorted!) and less clarity (but not harmfully so) than the 2^nd set. Overall, both are very well recorded and I would imagine set 2 was broadcast as this was typical around this time and other Rosyln, NY. “My Father’s Place” shows were indeed broadcast on local FM radio. So, while it seems Set 2 is the better audio (fractionally), I would say it was recorded for broadcast and this is the pre-broadcast tape recorded from the audience with open mics…yes? No? Maybe so?  I have no idea…it’s really good but not radio station broadcast good so maybe this show was never recorded for broadcast at all. Studio Quality 9.7 - A lot of collectors may think they are getting the same stuff over and over again in a different package but with the Prince studio collections you really are getting something different, but that might just mean alternate takes, mixes, or a different session with different players. Prince did like to experiment a lot and might want to try a song a hundred different ways before he was satisfied, similar maybe to Jimi Hendrix. I always find something to enjoy and always end up admiring Prince more and more after each listen…which is why I keep offering these titles because it lets me listen to even more Prince! Studio Quality 9.7 - Another fantastic collection of stuff Prince did in his studio and on air with disc 2 being the unreleased Milk and Honey album with Tamar.. What struck me about this particular set is right off the bat, the first track on disc one just blew me away. It’s an extended remix of Computer Blue with the sickest guitar, a real grinding, psychedelic and metallic tone that he squeezes to maximum effect and doesn’t want it to end. Neither did I!! Audience 8.8 - Another amazing historical document that gives us the entire picture of what it was like to attend a rock concert in Boston in the early 70's. It's one evening out of 365 other evenings in the calendar year but it is a year that I did not get to experience anything like this, being that I was still in elementary school. It's a glaring example of what I was missing!  Taper was not only prescient in capturing all the acts but he manages to do so with minimal problems and in very decent quality. Original tape transfers received recent treatment and have never sounded better, it makes me wonder why this material never got picked up by any of the boot labels in Japan or Europe for production. I need atmosphere, I want to feel the space around me, the venue itself is a part of the event. Audience tapes of high quality can sometimes deliver more atmosphere than the best soundboard, and sometimes it’s necessary if you want to relive an event to have that atmosphere included in the recording.
