Audience 8.4 - A great find here! So few Power Windows tour shows out there, and this one, while not a “great” recording, is pretty clear and has a lot of atmosphere. Does sound maybe midway in the venue, so you get a little of that “wash” or stadium “verb” effect but to my delight the bass notes are distinct and not just a boominess. It’s maybe the guitar that is slightly lost, with Geddy also being a touch behind the sound rather than in front. Overall, it is still a good listen and well worth having.

Audience 9.0 -A lovely, intimate sounding show. Now, don't get me wrong, there seems to be a large audience but the quality of the capture feels smaller, closer, warmer than your average midsize venue.Ry Cooder and The Moula Banda Rhythm Aces Mayfair Theatre Santa Monica, CA March 16, 1987 Late Show Disc 1 01 Showtime Intro 02 Little Sister 03 Smack Dab In the Middle 04 Go Home Girl 05 If Walls Could Talk 06 Money Honey 07 How Can A Poor Man Stand Such Times And Live 08 One Meat Ball Disc 2 09 Women Will Rule The World 10 Jesus On The Mainline 11 He'll Have To Go 13 Crazy 'Bout an Automobile (Every Woman I Know) 14 Canción Mixteca 15 La Bamba - Twist And Shout Jim Keltner - drums Ry Cooder - guitar, vocals Van Dyke Parks - keys Jorge Calderon - bass Flaco Jimenez - accordion Miguel Cruz - percussion Steve Douglas - sax George Bohannon - trombone Bobby King - tenor Terry Evans - baritone Arnold McCuller - tenor Willie Green Jr - bass

Audience 8.7 - Almost every recording from this venue sounds like a large, cavernous venue no matter where the taper is sitting. Thankfully this one is not as much, and the music is just that much more immediate and clear, so for this venue I would say this tape shines. Audience 9.1 - A very well done audience tape is the source, and the atmospherics are nice and immersive. Sound quality is right in the pocket! Show was unfortunately cut short due to severe weather, but there’s enough music here to satisfy regardless. Soundboard 9.0 - The unmistakable emphasis in this mix is the percussion (and to a lesser extent keyboards) but that makes for an interesting take on this one…you are forced to reckon with the powerhouse engine room for once, and with no regrets either. It’s still a good recording, and everyone else is there but you will know who’s taking the stage in the mix here. Audience 9.4 - A very tight and brassy sound, super detailed with enough of the surroundings to provide realism…without intrusion. Outstanding!

Audience 9.0 - A little bit further away from the stage than the typical Mike “The Mic” recording, nonetheless it’s solid and worthy of the collection. I noticed also more audience interaction, which, because such good equipment is being used, does not detract at all (I would say it lends more authenticity to the recording).

Audience 8.8 - This is a really nice one, pretty atmospheric without being reverby and hollow and the live sound mix is pretty right-on. The sound separation here presents itself as what feels like stereo to me, whether or not taper used two mics I do not know but it does sound like it. The band is really hot!

Soundboard 9.4 - Having received a refreshing facelift, this old and trusty board sounds more alive and vibrant than ever before…and that is great news because these early period Santana shows are essential listening experiences.
