Audience 9.4 - A killer tape with clear and direct sound as if you are right in front of the mains but no distortion or overload. Good balance too. Nice to hear this band live because the few other boots I've heard of them were really bad sounding. Released on vinyl, this features excellent multi-layered guitar, ripping bass and drum work, and Ian Gillan inspired vocals with dark, haunting, somewhat blues-tinged hard rock songs. Recorded in Rosenberg, TX. only a single 45 rpm was released, but the tracks on the 7" were from a previous demo recording done in 1974. This and much more is featured on the CD version, where you can hear for yourself why the world should have heard of the name Ottis Coleman, but hopefully now they will get the chance. For fans of Trapeze, Deep Purple. -
This is the CD only follow up release to the first album by Hooker. These tracks were culled from the bands personal archives and were transferred from the original reels. The time frame spans a period of several years, from around 1978 to approx. 1986. Some of the tracks do feature on the first album, but are going to be alternate versions, mixes, etc. There are also a few live tracks, we concluded those would have been from around 1974 making them some of the oldest surviving recordings of the band. -
Soundboard 9.8 - Superb is how I would define this recording. If you have any interest in any of the musicians from Jefferson Starship and Jefferson Airplane than I highly recommend this one. This gig eventually led to the members deciding to go tour. Audience 8.8 - A tape that sounds like it has been extensively worked on to try to bring out the tones and reduce noise. It’s a very old recording that has been preserved as well as could be expected although I feel like it has more life in it. Either way, it’s clean enough, in almost a soundboard way as you don’t hear any atmosphere except between songs where, quite honestly, it sounds like there’s nobody in the “crowd”. Strange.
