A collection of rare, never before issues tracks originating from Texas during the 1970's. Featuring a handful of demos produced by the group Truck, a band who slipped under the radar and whose music remained undiscovered for decades. The rest of the disc is rounded out by some known and some very obscure acts, some so obscure we do not even know what their name is! These tracks were discovered on an old forgotten multi-track reel that was owned by Ernie Myers (guitarist of Hands out of Dallas, TX.). Studios would frequently reuse reels to save costs, and this particular reel was no exception Tracks were discovered on the end of the reel that was used to record some demos in 1980. All that we know of the band are the first names of the members written on a track sheet inside the tape box. The recordings originated out of a studio called JD&D Sound...and that's it. The music is excellent! -
Excellent Soundboard recording of a highly regarded Texas rock group prominent in the mid '70's. They played an original, hybrid progressive, upbeat hard rock along with more Austin, Texas flavored "Tex-Mex" Southern infused rock and roll...like I said a hybrid style. Unfortunately it did not take hold anywhere outside of Austin, so it remained undiscovered but certainly in Texas the name is extremely well respected as it should be. Well worth discovering for yourself! -
Austin rural rock that had built up a good following and had incredible promise but for some reason their first recorded album never got picked up by anyone and remained shelved. As far as I know, this CD is the only way to hear this lost album, it's so obscure not even the track names are known. The band did change their name eventually and recorded another album which I know very little about. -
Shotgun were a 1970s rock band from Dallas. The band consisted of Guy Houston on drums, Hugh Coleman on bass, John Michael Soria on lead guitar, Russ Skarsten on keyboards, and Billy Metcalf on lead vocals. The band's 1976 album, recorded but never released, Dallasian Rock was remastered and reissued by ShroomAngel Records, in 2014. Reviewing the album for seaoftranquility.org, Pete Pardo awarded the album five stars and said: "This is incredible material that should have been huge back in the day, and the amazing thing is it still sounds fresh and exciting here in 2014. The ShroomAngel team have done a wonderful job on the remastering, so be prepared for a killer listening experience." -
Dallas based Christian proto-metal band that recorded loads of material and performed live but never actually released anything to the public. Two discs worth of master quality studio demos, and live, tracks. Very competent band that were obviously heavily influenced by the NWOBHM groups especially Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and maybe a healthy dose of classics like Thin Lizzy and Wishbone Ash with the dual guitar action a lot of the songs feature. Top shelf! -
Hard blues rock band formed in 1975 in Houston, TX. Featured vocalist BB. Watson who left Houston to pursue a career in Nashville as a C&W singer. He had some fleeting success, eventually came back to Houston and worked with Michael Knust (Fever Tree) and Keith York (Albatross, Rare Breed) for a stint and also attempted to reunite the Rare Breed (those sessions contained on this CD). Rare Breed also featured the guitar of Robert Hampton before he joined Hooker. These are all the known recordings. -

This is the follow up album to the recent reissue of Ruff Mix, the band's official studio offering released in 1975. Culled from the band's personal archives, the music was saved from destruction (literally the master tapes burned in a fire and barely survived) and remixed to present a picture of the band just prior to recording Ruff Mix, and then a few years after its release. The CD features late guitarist Richard Heath (Oz Knozz, Lady Killer, Lic) on side 1 and Rick Wheeler on side 2. -
Begun in Houston in 1969, brothers Duane and Bill Massey created an eclectic hard rocking progressive rock band that survived numerous line-up changes over the years and still exists to this day. An album, "Ruff Mix", was released in 1975 and features excellent arrangements augmented with blazing electric guitar by Richard Heath who went on to join Lic. This CD captures them in the early 80's where more emphasis was placed on hard guitar sounds, not necessarily metal but good Texas hard rock. -
Heavy, rural psyche that features pretty acid influenced guitar (putting it mildly) stoned, psychedelic lyrics with an Eastern mysticism pervading. Effects include conch shell through echoplex (yup), flutes, walls of feedback, sort of what you might get if you mixed Ya-Ho-Wa 13 with Tangerine Dream, Loch Ness, Hendrix, and Amon Duul. A limited edition offering from Houston based ShroomAngel Records. This band was one of the "inner loop" bands that began pushing boundaries in the local scene with their hybrid style, born out of two worlds - the growing "grunge" sound pioneered by Janes Addiction (which you can hear in their sound especially vocals) and Mudhoney among others, but also in old guard punk and hard rock, which you also get reminiscences of in their sound. The music even crosses into some psychedelic territory, it's pretty much an amalgamation of several styles that sometimes adds a sort of exotic feel, but with an anxious, almost paranoid underpinning. -
The sole LP released by Houston hard rockers Lic back in 1979 has been remixed and re-mastered and is released officially in partnership with ProgAor Records UK. The music is muscular, tight, heavy blues based bar rock of a high caliber. Includes bonus tracks. -
Formed in 1969, legendary heavy Southern psyche rock group Josefus took Texas by storm, recording a monumental LP (Dead Man) and touring throughout Texas in 1969 (opening act for Grand Funk on most of the Texas dates). Somehow, through all the craziness, they have kept it together (original singer and guitarist) all these years and continue to record and play live. This CD showcases an exceptional live performance on one side (this was originally done on vinyl which is now out of print) and a rare 1978 studio session on the other side (was lost for over 35 years!). A killer disc!
