Audience 9.3 - An excellent capture of a great performance by the entire band. With a recording like this where taper is using high quality equipment, the end result is only as good as the PA sound since that is what your mics capture. In the case of Dio, I am sure they have a multi-million dollar PA system and expert sound engineers at the desk. The live sound is well mixed and powerful. Audience 9.4 - Outstanding tape that has a full, rich bottom end that comes close to overshadowing the rest of the band but does not…but the fact that it is so insistent in the mix gives you that feeling like you are standing close to the mains and literally feel the bass and drums going right through you. That is what gives this recording an amazing live feel, because it literally places you right there and when you crank this you relive this event. This date is NOT the same show as the other Cologne '79 (Rockpalast) listed here. This is November 4th, 1979 so if you bought the other Cologne '79 this is not that and this is equal if not better in some ways than the Rockpalast gig. Audience/SBRD 8.8/9.3 - This is the good stuff. Both shows excellent, the Osaka aud. tape is quite good, very lively and clear. Audience/Soundboard 8.6-9.0 - The majority of the set is very good, audience quality tapes that have a decent enough sound where you can take it easy and not strain yourself trying to hear George rip his leads. I would say the lone exception though might be the Amsterdam tape which is less clear, but even here it's not a trainwreck at all. The board tape from France is good to have, obviously Dokken is clearly the top of the heap when it comes to the 80's "hair" metal bands although I hate to classify them there because they were class musicians first.

Audience 8.9 - Thankfully we have this amazing document because it’s quite fascinating. The sound is clear and bright, and has LOADS of ambience and immersive quality although I would not say it is “deep” or very rich sounding. It’s certainly kind of a typical guerilla recording but that someone went through the trouble and actually got the whole show in admirable fashion to me is the amazing part. The audience response to Donovan is the other amazing part and lends a lot to the excitement of the show. Really, really interesting one! Audience 9.1 - Great stuff here! A wide, ambient, but solid capture. This recording has some kind of magical ability to place you in a seat close to the stage and hear what probably was the actual PA sound, not colored by tape machine or microphone limitations. Audience 8.8 - A snapshot from the road during a period that for some reason is largely undocumented. The tape is consistent and good, most listeners will settle into it nicely, but those who prefer the pristine boards or Mike “The Mic” Millard quality tapes may be critical of this one. Soundboard 9.8 - This is a close to perfect KBFH broadcast and I say that because I love the sound mix here. For me, it was important to hear the bass so nice, round, present, defined, and pumping! Of course that is not to denigrate anything else but for me I just loved the way that shone through. The band is really at the highest of heights for a band, I remember growing up in the mid 70’s and this music permeated everything. The Doobie Brothers were the house band for the United States in 1976. Audience 8.6 - Not a bad tape at all, and seeing how there’s now all of what, one known live tape of this band I would say that is kind of cool. The band? Well they are in their final incarnation here, and playing is very loose and experimental…but honestly they needed to ditch the flautist as he contributes not only nothing, but he’s in the way. Let the guitarist do his thing ‘cause he seems to be able to turn on the switch and lay down bursts of awesome psychedelic insanity.
