• Soundboard/Audience matrix 9.5 - Here you have a recording that does both of the things you want in a live concert experience – clarity and punch via soundboard and ambience, immersion, electricity of the audience. The audience recording being blended in really adds to this experience, even when you hear excitable fans clapping nearby…it’s quite exhilarating really and this recording will eventually be hailed and revered by fans because…well, unfortunately because of the passing of Taylor Hawkins (RIP). • New York 1973 SDBRD 9.2 - Excellent professionally recorded show. It’s easy to hear how it was that his star took off and exploded just a few short years later. New Orleans 1973 Audience 8.8 - A strong, clear, atmospheric recording (easy to put yourself in the taper’s seats). I always thought some bands sound better if they aren’t captured through the board…Frampton has such good stage presence and there’s always such a good audience report…audience tapes of excellent quality are the best listening experience imho. • Audience 8.7 - You are a little deeper in the audience for this show, but it’s a fun ride because the audience at this show is so into it, they know what they are seeing and hearing and the band responds to it by giving one hell of a performance. A touch thin in the bandwidth but it is clearly captured enough to where you will get drawn into it completely. Guitar sounds cool, the atmosphere lends itself well to Frank’s sound here. • Audience 8.9 - Great atmosphere and really what I would call an "in-the-pocket" live mix. Frank really shines as the band introduce new songs to an audience they hope responds well because these versions are played with some serious intention. Frank's solos are spot on, he's not missing notes or going way off on meaningless tangents and that makes for some spellbinding moments. A very worthwhile listen...a keeper!

  • Audience 8.7 - It’s not necessarily a keeper but it is still a very good sounding tape that has maybe a touch more “atmosphere” than your used to. I could hear everything fine, although it isn’t the best in terms of instrument separation – it’s part and parcel sometimes when listening to audience recordings. I still can recommend this one, because it’s good enough that you won’t abandon it and it will sit nicely in your collection. • Early Show Audience 8.8 - Not to be confused with another Chicago ’81, this is from the Uptown Theatre on November 27th, and it’s relatively new to circulation. The sound quality is very good, with especially nice meatiness on drums, and a close, warm guitar tone and presence which makes this one to have in the collection.

Late Show Audience 8.8 - Very similar to the early show, maybe just a touch less defined due to being in a different spot, but at times it’s also just a touch clearer – so this leads me to believe it’s just a matter of where the microphone is at any given time. Must have been a good recorder though, because the sound is good on the low end and the mids, and highs are not excessive but rather kind of toned down in a good way.  It’s the kind of recording that you can turn up real loud.

  • Audience 9.4 - I love these tapes that make you feel you are in very small area with the band, like sitting at a little table having a cocktail as the band plays just feet in front of you. That is what this tape feels like, and the separation of instruments is delicious, with your ear hearing this show as if you were right there (meaning there is a stereo separation going on, a real one).  So buckle up, because you are going to feel as though your actually at this show, it’s that good.

  • Los Angeles 1984 Soundboard 9.7 - A great one here! Crisp sounding and a beautiful mix especially how the drums sound and all the vocals even backing vocals are clearly audible. Worcester 1984 Audience 8.8 - This is not a bad tape, but it is not recorded close to the mains so it does sound somewhat distant. The music is clear and not muddy but lacks that depth your ears crave. What it does highlight is the vocals which really project, keyboards sound comparatively good too, and the recording does improve somewhat throughout the performance sounding a little fuller as it goes along. Again, not a bad one and worthy of your time but on this 2 show set (From One End To The Other) the LA show is the better by far. • Soundboard 9.1 - All of this material is soundboard but keep in mind these 60's Zappa boards all have a somewhat "dated" sound quality which is not a bad thing because it creates a sonic time capsule that allows you to feel the vibe of the times. I think some of his audience might have been a little bewildered by what they were seeing and hearing because the reactions are sometimes very telling.

  • Audience 9.3 - A really clean, punchy recording that has realistic presence, and is river deep and mountain high – I especially found the drums, kick drum, toms, this was a pleasant surprise for an audience tape to deliver almost studio quality dynamics and placement in the stage mix was on point. Amazing to think that this tape remained out of circulation to only just recently, while we did have other shows from this week at the Hollywood Palace in 1984.
