Soundboard 9.8 - What makes this recording rate so highly is the professionalism all around – that means the band first for putting in the sparkling performance (and that’s even more succinct here with the unusual line-up and changing sound of Tull), and then the sound engineer for so deftly mixing and preserving this recording. I mean, it’s not just a board tape where you pop in the cassette and capture whatever sound you’ve dialed in for the evening, this is a well manicured mix that seemingly must have been made with a view towards a release because it is just too good, too perfectly balanced to be just a house mix. Soundboard 9.4 - A terrific “live” sound and feel, it’s hard to tell even if it is a board tape because it just has too much “room” and atmosphere. It’s quite astonishing really, it’s a fantastic sound and mix, and feel, and of course there’s the band and their amazing material. What I can say is that you will love this and play it again…it is one of the best. Audience 8.8 - I was surprised at just how good this sounded. The first half of the first song you wonder how it will be, and you fear it might wobble because taper is adjusting things on the fly but it gets sorted and wow, I have to give props to taper on this one! He sounds maybe halfway back in the venue, so not close up, but he’s using either high end consumer gear or maybe something more professional to be able to lock in his levels and get a really good timbre. Audience 9.2 - Someone did a really good job handling this stealth recording because it’s quite good and has enough atmosphere to allow you to imagine being there. I like “time capsule” recordings like this. The band sounds inspired on this evening. Audience 8.8 - Both shows here have the same dynamic - Massive volume! Now, here's the rub: the recordings are blast furnaces of rock and roll but NOT distorted beyond just the tiniest amount of crunch on the fringe of the upper-middle band. That means you get raw power as opposed to earschplittenloudenboomer,if you catch my drift. It's just a well recorded RAWK show at high volume and intensity...as it should be.

Audience 9.1 - Once taper settles in, this tape TAKES OFF and is pretty impressive. What struck me more than anything is not only the realism, but the wide dynamic range. It’s also a very powerful recording, you get a sense of the volume, especially when you get isolated drums during some of those small breaks in between measures, they are full bodied and great sounding. Audience 8.8 - I can’t believe it was 32 years ago I attended, and recorded, this concert. It was my birthday present, although this actually went down one day before my b-day. It’s weird because Joe also sang “Birthday” the classic Beatles song (and it wasn’t for me although I imagined that it was ha ha!). This recording is only now being made available, and it sounds great and just how I remember it, with Joe being very animated and playing lots of numbers not normally played, and telling funny stories. It was a great night, I had a blast.
