Audience 8.7 - For me, this tape was completely unknown. So, hearing it for the first time I was very excited because it’s a very comfortable sounding tape. The dynamics may be a little bunched up right in the middle but the frequency range here, going from lows to highs, is very comfortable to the ears. It’s also taped somewhat close to the stage, unlike the Fresno tapes which are good but a bit distant. I compare because the dynamics are similar. A good one for sure! Audience 8.8 - This is NOT the Monsters of Rock show, it’s actually the last DLR (classic era) show and it’s pretty good! It’s not super close up or terribly far from stage, seems to be in a nice spot and everything is clear with decent dynamics. Now, it’s a recording from a rowdy crowd but even with that I felt they did not ruin this or intrude unnecessarily – in fact it seemed they wanted to listen to the band and not hold conversations or stupid hooting and whistling during songs. Audience 8.7 - A rip-roaring blast of a tape! First thing you are going to think after maybe 1 minute is how dejected Montrose and Journey must have been after following the ascending Van Halen. Man, I felt bad for them and this show happened decades ago! It’s just the sonic equivalent of a shooting star, Eddie is blistering and hits every note with perfection, the bass is detailed and not just a booming thud, drums are OK and DLR is a little behind the band but who cares? The taper did a fine job, some minor hiccups every now and then but thankfully very few to deal with and they don’t last long. I am liking this show and the tape is just fine for its age. A keeper! Audience 8.6 - By all accounts, this is a real find! First, you get a rare tape that only recently has surfaced, and then it's from a poorly documented tour AND best of all it sounds pretty decent! It's just a great day to be a DLR era Van Halen collector.

Soundboard 9.5 - Wow! Man, this is totally unexpected and will brighten your day (week, or month even!) like nothing else. A brand new discovery and it's a one/two punch with back to back soundboard recordings of Diver Down tour Van Halen, a tour that previously featured a measley two board tapes in existence. Well, it's not a perfect score, but the imperfections are a tiny price to pay for the glorious sounds present here! Each tape in slightly incomplete, but in places that the other show fills in so you end up hearing the music that makes up a complete Diver Down tour setlist. Basically, the sound engineer most likely had to stop rolling in certain spots in order to make tape changes, but all you have to do is look at each nights set list to see how it shakes out, and, thankfully some good editing has smoothed over some of the stops. As I listened, if I hadn't known there were cuts, I probably would not have been the wiser, basically unless you know where the cuts are you won't notice. But, the SOUND man! The sound is great, I really get to hear Michael Anthony's articulate bass playing, and he's all over the place with fills and runs! You kind of lose that detail in most Van Halen recordings. Eddie is just lighting it up as always, but it sounds especially amazing on these two tapes. The interplay is magic, I don't care if the band had their shortcomings personally, with each other, with whoever, it doesn't show on stage. Somebody get me a doctor, I just got double dosed with prime era Van halen soundboards I've never heard before! What an unbelievable find.

Audience 9.2 - Surprisingly clear and vibrant..and very live sounding with LOADS of that atmosphere, you know, where you can hear people taking a huge toke and hacking immediately after. This was the last show of 1974 for Van Morrison, and he threw out a few rarely played numbers. Audience 9.1 - Recorded with equipment that sounds like it was well beyond the standard consumer grade stuff. Nice and warm, capturing the band close, with some nice detail, and the atmosphere is palpable. I mean, quite literally this recording is a time machine – you seem to be physically transported to 1974, to this small venue in Boston (actually Cambridge, a suburb of Boston). Very nice! Audience 9.0 - This is a very fine recording no doubt about it, although there is some kind of audio artifact present at the extreme high almost like it might be from the main microphone (stage mic). So, I don’t think it is the tape, or taper’s gear. At first you may think it is almost like a noise reduction artifact but it is not that which you will agree when you hear the electric guitars. That’s probably the only thing you can knock this for, but even that is rather minor, the music is very present, great live mix too. Audience 8.8 - A very good recording here, and the atmospherics are plentiful. There’s a natural reverb going on that adds another dimension to this, and I mean that in a good way. Lovely! Audience 8.8 - What this tape shows is that Vanilla Fudge were loud as hell on stage. That Hammond organ, it filled every square molecule of space with massive sound. No other bands at the time were using an organ quite like this! But, it’s fun to hear, if a little dated perhaps. A loud tape that barely stays together at full volume but miraculously manages to capture the event in good form. Vanilla Fudge ....
