Audience 8.7 – This is a fun recording to listen to, sure it’s a bit ramshackle being as if you’ve been tossed into the mosh pit (in 1973 I guess the entire venue resembled a mosh pit full of people too stoned to mosh!), but it’s actually not bad. I imagine by this time the band must realize that glitter and costumes aren’t enough to carry the show when your competition is Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, and other bands of that stature. Even if Bowie had anticipated all that by the time of this performance (undoubtedly he did), still the Ziggy Stardust premise seemed to be working well with the audiences as this tape can attest.
