• Audience 8.2/8.6  - The recording starts out borderline, probably due to taper position…but hang in there because midway through the 4th song it improves and becomes a more interesting document because of it, First of all, it’s literally Bob Seger in the peak of his powers with a handful of chart toppers to display proudly. Normally that would not move me, but Bob Seger is old school, he delivers the goods even if his songs are considered “mainstream”, I mean, its good rock and roll no matter what. I love this document for many reasons.   • Audience 8.8 - This is a tape that does improve as it goes ultimately coming to a comfortable place, and one might say it is warm and well balanced. When I hear this I can better appreciate this period of the band, when they were experimenting with their music trying to find a place in the changing world of FM radio and top 40. Does that make it bad?  I used to shake my head, but now I understand it, and I find that what they were doing was NEEDED in order to prevent ALL music from that time period sucking so much.   • FM Broadcast 8.9 - This recording was done from the radio broadcast even though most people think it is from the reels (it is from a reel to reel, but a recording made from the broadcast). However, once the live over the air sound mix is sorted out, it becomes pretty darn good and even if the tape has some signs of age, it’s a great document and well worth getting.   • Audience 9.2 - A recording that does more than merely capture a live concert on tape, it captures the dynamics and palpable vibe of the event. This is lovely stuff, with the band delivering stunning readings of majestic progressive rock numbers like Sound Chaser and Close To The Edge. To be honest, sometimes the overly jazzy keyboards of Moraz do conflict with the style and sound of the band but mostly he is able to provide the correct sounds during the key parts.   • Audience 8.3 - Both shows recorded by same taper so sound quality consistent throughout. This is another one of those “right in the middle of the action” tapes, where literally you sense the surroundings, and settle yourself in to what will be a wild night of rock and roll music. Quality is decent, without too much in the way of dynamics, but also this is not a muddy, crappy recording, it’s just not showcasing a wide range of tones. What you do get is a total immersion, and a very real sense of the electricity in the air (and in the excitable crowd). FOGHAT Music Hall Boston MA.   • Excellent Soundboard recording of a highly regarded Texas rock group prominent in the mid '70's. They played an original, hybrid progressive, upbeat hard rock along with more Austin, Texas flavored "Tex-Mex" Southern infused rock and roll...like I said a hybrid style.  Unfortunately it did not take hold anywhere outside of Austin, so it remained undiscovered but certainly in Texas the name is extremely well respected as it should be. Well worth discovering for yourself!
  • Radio Broadcast & Audience 8.8/8.5 - The radio material sounds its age but is a fine document in good enough shape to give you a deeper appreciation for this hugely influential band. The audience material is from a small club, and therefore does not suffer stadium sound problems meaning you can hear everyone pretty solid especially the guitar which is great. I am happy to be able to hear these recordings knowing a little background on the band and how they forged their own path in the music industry. A bit of ancient historical importance on the 1974 show, Judas Priest opened and come on at the end to jam with Budgie making it the first recorded appearance of Judas Priest on tape!   • Audience 8.8 - Easily one of the best audience recordings of the tour. Very close to the main P.A. system on Tony’s side of the stage, this puts Ozzy a little in the background but not so much he cannot be heard reasonably well. It’s just, well, it’s the sheer POWER on display by the band that makes this one so special and that the recording manages to deliver that without glaring problems (and in 1973, wow!) is a miracle.   • Audience 8.8 - This is the good stuff, seriously good I mean. What you are getting in this one is a band really unstoppable, with a monstrous hit in Frankenstein that the audience is going nuts for and for good reason – a penultimate version that will leave you completely floored. Very strong recording puts you in the action with a front row seat. I love it!   • Audience 8.4 - This tape was made by a very sincere taper, you can clearly tell the person tried very hard to make it work. I think, if I had to guess, the problem was not him, it was more than likely improper microphone type and simple passage of time, because this is a clear and strong tape that falls a little short in some aspects making it a little above average where it could have been amazing. The tape struggles through The Lamia, where you get the effects of age and degradation. The audio quality suffers a little bit because of distance, and that robs some dynamics and clarity, but here’s the thing: The equipment was good quality and that comes through as you do get a certain realism, a sense of the venue and atmosphere that the open mic captures. The stereo field on this tape is pretty wide, so my guess is that microphones were hoisted above the audience somewhere middle of the arena. I think I like this tape in some regards, and I definitely do not consider it rubbish and neither will you. One last thought – I found this recording did slowly improve as the show progressed, perhaps dipping a bit at the end of disc one but not catastrophically.   • Audience 8.4 - A middle of the road stadium recording that is quite clear but not very close. That being said, I found much to appreciate from this one – namely the curious line-up at this time. Tony Martin singing, ok, he is decent enough and certainly professional caliber but to me, this just is not Black Sabbath. It’s a really badass metal band with Tony Iommi on guitar.  This recording does allow you to really hear both Tony’s pretty loud and clear.   • Audience 8.8 - A great atmospheric recording – I think I have figured it out though – so people used to go to concerts and party, with the musician on stage performing just an excuse to be with hundreds of other pot smoking, over-hyped hippies. What I am trying to say is that the audience is a little too into it…in my opinion. Great show though.   • Audience 8.7 & Radio Broadcast 9.4 - Both of these are amazing, even the audience tape which is frighteningly intense manages to deliver a wallop. So, let me prepare you best I can, what you know about this band probably comes from their mid to late 70’s FM radio hit singles but my friend this stuff ain’t that…no not by a long shot. This is balls to the wall heavy prog tinged acid rock. There are plenty of moments where you can’t tell where the guitars and keyboards are coming from because they bob and weave almost as one instrument…brilliant!   • Audience 8.7 - A rip-roaring blast of a tape! First thing you are going to think after maybe 1 minute is how dejected Montrose and Journey must have been after following the ascending Van Halen. Man, I felt bad for them and this show happened decades ago!  It’s just the sonic equivalent of a shooting star, Eddie is blistering and hits every note with perfection, the bass is detailed and not just a booming thud, drums are OK and DLR is a little behind the band but who cares?  The taper did a fine job, some minor hiccups every now and then but thankfully very few to deal with and they don’t last long.
