Soundboard 9.4 - Minor hiss present in quiet passages but does not impact any music. This is a great show, impressive in every regard especially the incendiary guitar work by unheralded master Daryl Stuermer. Many people were first introduced to Ponty through this album, Imaginary Voyage, and it’s on full display here in a live setting. EXCELLENT!! Audience 8.8 - I can’t fault this too much even though it is not a tape without a certain sonic limitation – but it’s not enough of a fault to be critical of what is a fantastic performance paired with a warm, energy filled tape. It’s a great capture that barely holds the intensity before it begins to break-up, albeit only slightly, as the volume overwhelms the microphone. Is that bad? Normally it spells disaster if the recording equipment is, say, a realistic or some no-name generic piece of crap but this taper is obviously using high end stuff. The point at which volume and intensity causes normal gear to fail only slightly bother this set-up. So, I recommend it as one of the better 1976 tapes out there. It’s simply great and you’ll love it. Audience 8.3 - Not recorded from the best vantage point on the best gear, but taper made the best of it, and it gets incrementally better from the time where he moves to a better spot (closer). Tape has all the hallmarks of a large stadium, loud rock concert, the regular deal…not going to blow anyone away. Now that I’ve said that, there’s some good news! Yup – Pete is playing great and he is the clearest sounding, followed by Roger, and the bass has a good, deep, rumbling growl that comes through (NOT boomy!). If this tape had been boomy, I would have rated it in the upper 7’s. First song, first row behind the stage looking at Keiths Moon’s back. Track two starts and I’m looking for a better recording position. The stage has typical left and right arrays but there was also an extra array on the right side facing the stage. Strangely not one to the left side. I parked myself in front of it which was basically just above me. On minor movement towards the center of the arena on the right side to avoid two chicks with whistles and the remaining show was recorded in that position. -

It’s still very good – might could use more thickness, but you will probably be able to enjoy this show and certainly are welcome to boost the low end which will help. Soundboard 9.1 - This mix favors Mick Jagger, but I like the very lifelike feel of it overall. It’s not super well separated but everything can be heard well enough and that includes the piano (although horns are pushed back), and Mick Taylor is especially present when he solos (an added bonus!). There is no doubt that this recording must be present in every Rolling Stones fan’s collection. Audience 8.6 - Small club vibe and really good sound with an emphasis on percussion clarity and presence. Recording leans to the mid and upper end but it’s not too brittle there, so it’s very comfortable but can use some added low end anyway. Aside from that, this is quite good. Led by singer Richard Butler and his brother Tim Butler on bass. The Psychedelic Furs are one of the many acts spawned from the British post-punk scene. Their debut album was in 1980. But in 1982, the band were reduced to a four-piece. The Furs did find success in the US with their next release, 1981's Talk Talk Talk, which included the original version of "Pretty in Pink", which was later re-recorded for the 1986 movie soundtrack "Pretty in Pink". This movie would help launch Molly Ringwald's acting career. -

Audience 8.3 - What is happening with this tape is that the bass frequencies are too much for the microphone, and it causes some peaking (not pure distortion, just level peak). On the plus side, it’s relatively open in all the other frequencies, meaning you can actually listen to this show and once your ears sort of adjust to the limitations, it’s not that bad. I would still call this one for hardcore collectors only though, even when there is a shortage of 1979 tapes. The quality is very clear, leans towards the upper end of the sound spectrum but not too harsh, only to the point I think you could add some bass and that would really allow these shows to satisfy. They are all very good, bass would put them into the great category. Audience 8.6 - Very low gen (no noise) recording that is leaning much more towards the bright side, perhaps even a little bit crispy but a recording like this can be tuned to your liking. What prevents a recording from having any chance at all is muddiness, and thankfully there is no muddy quality to this tape. All in all, I have to rate this as a show that one notices first the performance (from the opening notes you know it is going to be a good one), and the ears do adjust to the concert hall sound very soon, notwithstanding the EXTREMELY excited audience…like, throughout the entire show. Can’t blame ‘em I guess, but damn let the band play!
