Audience 9.3 - I am primarily interested in 1969-1973 Stones but I gotta say, this band has become very sophisticated and very tight, from the playing, setlist construction, audience interaction, you can’t deny them their place at the top of Rock Royalty because they’ve not only earned it, they continue to do it. Bravo, this is just superb, from beginning to end. The Rolling Stones O2 Arena London, UK. Audience 8.7 - This tape, when it first surfaced, was to many Kinks collectors the Holy Grail of live tapes. It marked the band’s triumphant return to the States, and the band was determined to make up for lost time. A fiery performance and a great capture. A tiny bit of tape chatter in the first track but it smooths out from there and is a real rocket ride! Soundboard 9.7 - Amazing set featuring the nitro-fueled blues rock of Rory Gallagher on full glorious display. A decidedly heavy approach this time, but it seems odd that the audience embraced this yet boo’d Stevie Ray Vaughan mercilessly only a few short years later. Audience 8.5 - A pretty clear but somewhat distant tape, with Ozzy being front and center followed by Randy and then some tin can drums and little to no real bottom end – but you do hear the notes played which makes this one to investigate as it is not very well known about. As I listen, I think the selling point is indeed how relatively clean and clear it is, a good capture all in all. Drums get a little better… the bottom end remains thin though. Audience 8.7 - I rate this as very good and it is, but a typical review might not explain what makes it so very good. It’s not the greatest live mix or sound, but it’s a tape that delivers real magic despite itself. The Mick’s (both of ‘em) are the highlight, both are more prominent and both are on top of their game. Soundboard 9.3 - Mixed well for a live broadcast, so you get a really good sense of what this band was about on the live stage. Now, I always kind of wondered really what these guys were about, and history can now reveal all of that, but my take is that they certainly owed a lot to Rush – that said they took that general presentation to a more FM friendly place. It worked for a while… Triumph Sports Arena Los Angeles, CA March 8, 1985 FM-sourced; lineage unknown

Audience 8.8 - Thrown into the middle of the action, surrounded by hyper excited Japanese teenagers, you are REALLY going to experience what this evening felt like on many levels – not least of which was the super-electrified performance of a Queen band riding the crest of a popularity wave that would last many more years. Audience 8.7 - I gave this a good rating for the combination of very good audience tape with not the best live stage mix (vocals kind of buried), excited audience (but respectful during performance) and a powerful performance (drums are wailing, Leslie is on point). Studio Quality 8.8-9.4 None of this is bad, however there is going to be some hiss on some tracks but it’s not annoying at all. Overall it’s all great, some very very interesting stuff going on here too. Record Plant 1974 Studio Quality 9.6 - Great way to listen to the artistry of Steely Dan – a great band live and in the studio. St. Louis 1974 Soundboard 8.7 - A little on the slightly muffled side but being a board tape you do hear everything. It will sound much worse than it is if you listen to disc one first (normal operating procedure) but I have to say this recording is still worth having for fans of Steely Dan as they did not tour much and so there's only so much from 1974. Audience 8.4 - An uneven mix is the fault, other than that it’s fine. Sounds like taper was on one side of the P.A. and got a lot of one guitar, and it sounds great, very menacing tone, but we lose some other elements that sort of appear and then disappear. The recording is not hard to enjoy even with that issue, for me it was because of the good live tone and having that guitar so close it made me feel like I was seated with the taper hearing what he was hearing. Also, I look forward to certain songs live, with Opium Trail being one and it is present here on this tape. THIN LIZZY Orpheum Theater Boston MA. Soundboard 9.7 - As crystal clear as it could possibly get. Why it doesn’t get a 10 rating? Because in my opinion a perfect recording is not just crystal clear but has numerous other elements that separate it from just another clear board tape. Not to denigrate this at all, because it is great – but a crystal clear near perfect board tape is just that, a near perfect board tape that does not reflect ambience, atmosphere, vibe (although not always), and other elements of a live concert. Still, you will love this anyway it’s Prince after all and these kind of fly on the wall type recordings are super cool. The Spectrum Philadelphia, PA. 11-22-84 Disc 1 1. Bass Try Out #1 2. Audience 8.7 - A raucous affair this one, the music is recorded very well, on excellent gear, but the stage mix is not ideal, but I am going to be critical mainly because I don’t like where the guitars are in the sound mix. The music is hot, not only performance wise but also on the tape itself, it’s pushing the meters to the breaking point…but it doesn’t break…much. There’s some “noise” somewhere in it, it’s not bad, it’s not a deal breaker, but I can tell it is there and I think it’s just some minor breakup in one band somewhere in the mid range. All in all, this is a pretty good one to get. Audience 8.7 & Radio Broadcast 9.4 - Both of these are amazing, even the audience tape which is frighteningly intense manages to deliver a wallop. So, let me prepare you best I can, what you know about this band probably comes from their mid to late 70’s FM radio hit singles but my friend this stuff ain’t that…no not by a long shot. This is balls to the wall heavy prog tinged acid rock. Audience 8.7 - This is a solid effort, it captures a typically rowdy J. Geils party atmosphere without sacrificing the music at all. Taper has good seats, and he manages not to get too bumped around because it sounds like a lot of stuff was being consumed this evening in 1972. A good one to have! J. Audience 8.4 - This tape was made by a very sincere taper, you can clearly tell the person tried very hard to make it work. I think, if I had to guess, the problem was not him, it was more than likely improper microphone type and simple passage of time, because this is a clear and strong tape that falls a little short in some aspects making it a little above average where it could have been amazing. The tape struggles through The Lamia, where you get the effects of age and degradation. The audio quality suffers a little bit because of distance, and that robs some dynamics and clarity, but here’s the thing: The equipment was good quality and that comes through as you do get a certain realism, a sense of the venue and atmosphere that the open mic captures. The stereo field on this tape is pretty wide, so my guess is that microphones were hoisted above the audience somewhere middle of the arena. I think I like this tape in some regards, and I definitely do not consider it rubbish and neither will you. One last thought – I found this recording did slowly improve as the show progressed, perhaps dipping a bit at the end of disc one but not catastrophically. Audience 8.7 - A very good tape for the time, and what a good time it is for the Stones. What I really enjoyed the most about this recording is how clear Mick Taylor is in the mix. It’s not a super bright sounding tape, and it is not muddy, it is better than average but it shines in atmosphere, performance, and vibe. Audience 8.6 - Very low gen (no noise) recording that is leaning much more towards the bright side, perhaps even a little bit crispy but a recording like this can be tuned to your liking. What prevents a recording from having any chance at all is muddiness, and thankfully there is no muddy quality to this tape. All in all, I have to rate this as a show that one notices first the performance (from the opening notes you know it is going to be a good one), and the ears do adjust to the concert hall sound very soon, notwithstanding the EXTREMELY excited audience…like, throughout the entire show. Can’t blame ‘em I guess, but damn let the band play! Audience 8.6 - Taped by the same person using the same gear so there is only minor differences between these shows which are related specifically to position, and it sounds like taper was in roughly the same general position for each show. Very consistent throughout, although just to be super detailed I have to prefer the second show which seems to be slightly closer to my ears. The quality is very clear, leans towards the upper end of the sound spectrum but not too harsh, only to the point I think you could add some bass and that would really allow these shows to satisfy. They are all very good, bass would put them into the great category. Audience 8.4 and Audience 8.2 - Both performances showcase a confident Jeff Beck, but in terms of sound quality the London show is clearer and bass has less boom so you can really dial in to the playing. The Manchester show is not that bad but it is a bit murkier, slightly more dynamic in the vocal dept. and I think the London show edges it out in performance quality as well. Doesn’t mean you will ignore it, just that you will favor the London gig, in fact the London show is a real contender to be in all Jeff Beck fans’ collections. Beck, Bogert, & Appice .... Audience 8.7 - A very good tape, with brightness and decent clarity, although maybe slightly crunchy at the very top of the high end (cymbals) but not too much. It does lack just a bit of mid band warmth and punch, but once you get about 10 minutes in, you will adjust and realize it’s pretty good, especially for those with EQ’s in their system because then you can round it off a little. Audience 8.5 - A fun recording to listen to, the quality is decent enough to where you can really dive in and not get fatigued at all…because let me tell you these guys really rocked out at this gig. If they were coked to the gills or drunk or whatever, I mean, I just don’t hear that. I hear a good hard rockin’ band! Soundboard 9.8 - There would be no reason why a professionally recorded Kraftwerk show should sound anything less than near perfect because let’s face it, unless you are a complete moron, it would be hard to screw up their mix. It’s pretty basic, and because of that what you have here is pretty darn good. Kraftwerk l'Olympia Paris, France February 28th, 1976 Personnel: Ralf Hütter: Minimoog Model D, Vako Orchestron, mixer Karl Bartos: Electronic Percussion Wolfgang Flür: Electronic Percussion, photo-electric light-activated drum cage Florian Schneider-Esleben: ARP Odyssey, Votrax VS-6 "talking typewriter", electronic flute-synth device, mixer Disc 1 1. Tuning & Radioactivity 2. Airwaves 3. The Voice of Energy & Die Sonne, Der Mond, Die Sterne 4. Kometenmelodie 5. Tongebirge & Tanzmusik Disc 2 6. Autobahn 7. Mitternacht Notes on the show: Yet another AMAZING find that's now just come to light. This is a master tape from the France Inter archive of the FULL l'Olympia show! We only had 21 mins from the 'Somewhere in Europe' LP and then 38 mins from a rebroadcast in 2015. This is the complete show from a radio programme called "We're Going Out Tonight" with no radio DJ talking over the music or tuning. Very likely recorded before being broadcast on the radio. Of special note is Florian's use of the Votrax VS-6 "Talking Typewriter" as Karl put it in his memoir for "Die Sonne, Der Mond, Die Sterne."

Audience 8.9 - A super clear recording with a marvelous drum sound. Recording levels are a touch low so crank it up, don’t worry it sounds MUCH better loud!
