RCMH - Audience 8.9 - A nice atmosphere, even though it is a large hall there is a charming warmth here. Natalie's vocals carry very well, she is prominent in the mix. There is some background audience chatter occasionally that adds an element of immediacy without being a distraction. I don't usually condone chatter near the taper but the taper has done a great job with this "immersive" situation and I rather like it. Pier 84 - Audience 9.1/SDBRD 9.3 - Very similar to the RCMH show but more clarity in the high end, and slightly better separation of instruments. This is a VERY good recording that will provide many enjoyable moments for the listener. Audience 8.8/Soundboard 9.3 - Very good audience source for the Philly show, perhaps maybe just somewhat lacking in bottom end and of course it’s denser than the clean channel mix of a board tape or broadcast but for 1984, I don’t know I think it’s pretty good. The Cleveland Agora show is excellent quality. Soundboard 9.7 - I give this a stellar and glowing review and consider it an absolute must have for any self-respecting ACDC….no, wait, any self-respecting rock music fan. Why? Because, even though the old tape has an occasional drop out (rarely), it is so fucking electrifying, exciting, and pure that you can’t help but bang your head to it…the entire show! The combination of the superb live mix that maintains 100% live energy, there’s no mixing the life out of this bad boy, and the amazing performance all contribute to must have status. I love how I can hear Malcolm so distinctly, and even the bass notes come through…but the drums, that insistent rat a tat snare just makes this tape a winner bar-none. The bonus concert on disc two is also a board tape, and it has a different feel to it but it is also amazing. Get it man!

Soundboard 8.8 - OK, so yeah this board tape is extremely clear but it suffers from the sterility of most board tapes, and when the band is ACDC, you really need that electric atmosphere a rowdy audience provides. I also found this tape kind of missing some “guts”, but, if you want to hear everything, all guitars and drums, vocals (including backing vocals), then you can’t miss with a clean board tape that allows everything to be present. Audience 8.8 - At first my thought was that this was a recording for a broadcast because even though it sounds like an audience recording, that may just mean that the station used room mics to capture the concert. What tipped me off to the fact that this is indeed just a really good audience tape is the clapping near the mic after the songs. Soundboard 9.9 - This nearly brought me to tears. I always knew this band could reach the highest level of quality, in performance, in tone, in showmanship, and here it is. Yeah, sure, I know what you are thinking: “it’s mid 80’s Aerosmith, it’s the doldrums of rock, it’s a washed up bunch of druggies” but I have to tell you that if this marks a “comeback” then it’s the most amazing comeback I have ever heard. I’ve heard tons of live Aerosmith and I take this show over ALL of them. Audience 8.5 - A total time capsule, I mean, if you want to know what the 70's sounded like just pop this CD in. Kind of dated but hippie cool. Sound is good, but a little crowded in the middle and raucous in a fun way. Your ears will bump into the guy next to you, and you'll be pushed and shoved a little but man, you are at the show having a blast. The thing about listening to mid 70's live Aerosmith is you are always kind of tuning in to hear signs of the impending train-wreck about to happen at any minute and I guess that is the charm of it. Audience 8.4 - They should call this tape “Noise In The Attic” ha ha! Actually, I am being very tough here, it’s a bright tape, it favors high end but is not too screechy…I just need more low end personally. That being said – vocals are in the front here, followed by Joe Perry, so that is crucial to this being a worthwhile listen. Taper has to hide his gear once or twice, so you occasionally hear the inside of his coat. Not too many 1975 period tapes out there, I am thankful for this one…you will be too, especially when the coast is clear and taper brings the mic back out (makes for a really refreshing audio moment!). Audience 8.7 - It’s difficult to express sometimes to people who maybe did not start collecting until the digital age what it is like for us old cats to be listening again to a recording we first heard on cassette…and could barely listen to they were so awful, muddy, gen’d down, etc. – and now they show up like maidens to the prom. This old recording sounds like years of mud and grime were wiped away, still not great but man what a difference! The bonus tracks from Anaheim got the same treatment but the original tape was recorded from further back so is not as good as the Detroit, but historically seems more important being that it is with Jeff Beck. I think this stuff here is like finding unpolished diamonds…maybe a little bit dirty but they are invaluable and hold beauty in and of themselves. Aerosmith Cobo Arena Detroit, MI. Audience 8.4 - What saves the recording is the fact that it is clear, like virtually no muddiness, although the sound mix itself lacks definition except for Steven and Joe who are like rays of light peering through your window. The drums are good too, all in all it is hard to say this is not a necessity, it may not be but it’s very interesting and certainly of good enough quality to keep you engaged. Audience 8.6 - This is just fascinating. They could have easily billed this show as “The Aerosmith Blues Band” or something because they really were all about playing gritty blues and rock. The guitar work is cleaner and very articulate, it’s quite a revelation to hear them when they were really so conscience of the music, the notes, and not the glam. Audience 8.5 - A really fine document of a superb time for the band…young, hungry, full of spit and vinegar and quite frankly at the top of their game. The playing is transcendental, a band completely in sync with each other. The tape is noise free, and while most of the time it sounds a touch on the dull side, it does brighten up and you know it’s probably because the taper got bold and moved closer to the stage. Soundboard 8.8 - This tape exhibits some compression characteristics but is overall clear enough to enjoy. It doesn’t favor any one particular frequency, and does not have a large amount of bottom end.
